What are the chances that only specific members, i.e. based on length of time on site, members who know how staff work, have seen the ups and downs of the site etc, can give an opinion, rather than if it was someone who is a newer user only. I don't know if that can make a difference.

Voting on a poll will not showcase what staff need to see in order to judge someone, why are they voting no? yes? maybe? that is what is needed to be known if you want it to be known. In the end the staff get the final decision based upon that. That's how I see it.

Is there a reason why you're looking for opinion on, or wanting the community to share their opinions on said applicants for future staff?
When the community are annoyed because of possible poor judgement or choices of promotions, I feel the staff clearly need the community input.

If you really want it go to the Spam Forum. Yeah everyone seems like their trolls, but really the opinions still mean something. Right.

Or just simply promote ex-staff members who WANT to come back (and have a track record of doing good for the site) or actual active members. If this would happen, we as the community wouldn't care about having a say in staff voting and promotions.

No, they can submit a mod application and have to follow the mod application process just like any other user

Look I'm not trying to pull a SuF, but my point is that for whatever reason, I'm sure a number of ex-staff applied and got denied. No one seems to understand the logic behind promoting someone who hasn't been active for years as opposed to someone who's been always at the top of their game when they were moderating.

Wouldn't hurt for someone wanting moderator to get feedback from the community. Be strict on trolling on such threads and it should be fine.

Mods control the site, mods should therefore chose those who best exhibit a similar vision for site. I think the system is efficient as it stands. No reason a new user should get a say in who gets chosen. Perhaps, senior members getting a say might be more relevant, but no reason to over-complicate things.

    Just my lowly 2-cents.

I personally view as the community controls the site and staff just happen to be there in case things go wrong.

Sounds a bit odd that lower staff can't vote but staff are looking for community input? Going back to the question I asked earlier. Are sectionals input even sought after? @Superfluous

It's all upper staff when it comes to promotions for Staff, OMMs, etc.

I know Richard listened to me back when I was a sectional though, there were a lot of problems back then and he did take my feedback as a lower staff member serious.

Perhaps y'all should think about what sectionals are saying as well if you're wanting to look for community input as well. s/o Excelont seems pretty annoyed at the promotion.

I support your intentions but not this suggestion because it would basically become a popularity contest which destroys the purpose of who can actually perform the job.

Sure - hence why I suggested that allowing for veteran members (i.e sectional mods) to provide input as not a bad idea. But, is it really necessary?

Letting the unwashed masses share their input might just be over-complicating things.

yeah but then again i dont think there should be a lot of influence just from what the community thinks, the decision should also be left up to USL

Absolutely no support. It would do nothing and it is just a way of the staff to say they are taking the community's opinion into account without actually doing so.
