Latest rule update

Users are no longer allowed to use signatures/avatar gifs over the size of 2.5mb

 

RIP to the sig I used to use
Gf 100m, was no warning which was slightly annoying., even on my iPhone I had no trouble viewing threads with flashy sigs, but hey ho I'll have to fork out some more for another sig..

 

If your Sinatra is over 2.5m your breaking a rule.

I would imagine your gif is.

 

It is something we had to do. I'm sure there are many other users on this forum who had trouble scrolling because someone on that page had an excessive signature.

 

Optikal you're so retarded I don't even know where to start, I hope the people who created your signatures refund you or make you a new one so you can still advertise your shops/vouches etc.

 

Only time I've had problems is when n4n0 posts his stupid twitch.tv link and embeds it multiple times >.>

 

There's nothing stopping you using a static version of your old signature.

 

Not the point, I payed 3x to have a .gif for extra boost of attention.

 

And how big was the file?

 

Apologies for the slight grave dig, but I'd just like to weigh in my $0.02.

Anybody who paid for a signature:
You paid for a signature. The signature is still there, it still does what you paid for, it still looks exactly the same. Yes, you may not be able to use it here any more, but you can use it anywhere else you'd like.

You paid the artist for their time - they still put in that time and did the work you asked for. It would be unfair to penalise them by asking for a refund or a new signature (u less they kindly offered).

Finally, 2.5MB is a decent amount for one signature. People are complaining about miniranks' impact on load times, and yet some people still think its acceptable to have a gif this large? You knew the forum rules were subject to change when you joined - this rule is a good change for the community. I'm sure you can all see that this was not implemented as a result of greed.

 

You make good points, however, i would be rather pissed if i paid extra to boost my exposure, then to have that marketing tool revoked.

After all, these people are paying for this to help their sales, more sales, has the potential to bring in more donations for the site.

I havn't seen 1 post with someone stating sythe is loading slow for them due to what i think 6 people in total had gifs made?

IF you can't load the site due to 1 gif maybe every 30 threads.. you have more issues to worry about.


Now if they show me were a good bit of users complained about it, then that could sway my thinking, but as far as i can tell, no one has complained.

 

It's not about loading the gifs. Its about large gifs being laggy once they're loaded.
