Wow I haven't seen Sythe post in a while, but he made a valid point. They're claims are absolute crap, they would have to show proof of everytime you botted and it costed them money.

I doubt they'll follow through on this. At worst they might sue a few people to drum up some publicity, or send some threatening letters.

Even if they do nothing, the threat alone is enough to give botters a scare.

I received this email on my paypal email rather than my email registered to my account.

 

I bot on a lot of different accounts, a lot of different skills. I suppose at least I've not got 50+ running at once.

honestly they shouldn't get your paypal email from any website. And any website who does give out your paypal email should get into trouble.

But its a virtual thing they would try to sue for and lawsuits to individual people wouldn't go over well as they can supply an infinite amount of anything they want into there own game putting no actual cost to anything in there game. I can see this email effecting companies or people that use bots and get pain Real Money for the service but even then they couldn't prove that you were paid for doing so.

Also to this whole bot thing Jagex should realize they are getting paid by most of the bot users and its there income they are putting down. So Fail to them! We are paying to play there game so they should hike up there big boy paints and F*** off, we are paying to play a game who gives a fuck how we play it if we are paying.

Dam real email... To bad their isnt anything going to go on. They are mass sending this out in hopes of catching someone who is running a MASS gold farm. Honestly how can they file a law suit on me when all they have is a runescape account? When I make my accounts I enter false information and I use a spam email. How is that going to trace back to me. Yeah sure they could check out the IP but don't give them enough evidence to come at me. This is really sad that they are going this route on this shitty ass game. The email is directed mostly towards the chinese fuckers.

Doesn't the DMCA only protect copy right issues, by botting you aren't infringing on that right. I saw nothing in the law that talked about harm, cheating, or playing the game wrong.

This is likely to scare enough shit out of enough people that it will greatly decline the amount of young kids who bot. I can't really see Jagex actually being able to sue you for up to $2500 for each and every instance that you botted ingame... but who knows, I am no lawyer.

It seems a little over the top though, and it would likely be far too expensive for Jagex to pursue legal action against all these "John Does", especially with all the income they will already be losing from cancelled bot subscriptions. Most likely just the latest ploy to fill the drawers of young kiddies underpants in fear and anxiety, forcing many of them to stop botting completely for fear of being sued.
