The Illuminati were a group of oppressed scientists who's goal was to undermine the Roman Catholic Church by proving church beliefs to be wrong using science.

The Illuminati is a dead organization. The Church doesn't oppress anyone, and obviously we have freedom of speech in America, so it doesn't matter.

There are some conspiracies stating that the Illuminati is controlling the media, and therefore, what the masses believe. Now I'm not going into that debate, but even if there were such a group, they wouldn't be part of the same organization that was started hundreds of years ago, regardless if they call themselves "The Illuminati".
