I've always thought to myself, what if a jagex employee, say someone who is in the higher tier bracket (mark Gerhard status) of power who could simply create max cash and give it to his account for resale and sold to forums such as, say, sythe, actually did this? Do you people think this has been done by a high ranked jagex worker? I mean, think about how rich you could get if you could never get caught creating gp and slowly selling it off? I think if I was a J mod like mod mark I'd definitely do this like once a month for a free what $8,000 monthly?

Or even sell it off and then ban the account they sold it to so no gp is even technically created.

Interesting..very interesting.

Maybe that's why they had the "Well of goodwill", All that GP was actually pumped back into the economy from people who just "gave" their GP away. :I

They would get caught quite easily. I'm sure they would have some sort of system in place to see what their employees are doing with their accounts, for example, spawning in max cash. Especially if it was just on a "regular" account.

Surely this would decrease the value of the GP. I personally wouldn't do it. They're employed, I mean why put a steady income that pays the mortgage on the line just for an extra thousand dollars a year? After they get caught they'd be unemployed. What then? Wise up people.

12 year olds will only think as 12 year olds.

I'm sure there's a log kept of every item a Jmod gives to someone & every time a Jmod trades someone.

"Oh, Mark, it looks like you gave a lvl 3 2147M yesterday. What was that about?"

"Erm....derp"

Lol, obviously they'd go through surreptitious means if they were to do this. OP's question was hypothetical, no need to imply anyone wondering about it is 12 years old.

My guess is even certain employees can't dupe or create gold in the live game, to avoid things like this.

Bragg's comment is truncated because he doesn't take into account the ease a jmod would have then of banning the account they sold gold to, therefore gold actually becomes MORE valuable as that account is losing the bought gp and any other GP they may have.

Also, Fishy once accused a Jmod of hacking him for something like 50b....so if one were to assume this to be true, which it's hearsay and I won't comment on...it's not that farfetched to believe ONE person has attempted what OP wonders about.

Not to mention...when people make money, most of them want more. So having mortgage money is irrelevant. Some people are greedy...

I think its possible.. but unlikely, anyone im that higher tiered bracket more than likely holds stocks or a big portion of the game and are discusted in real world trading because they aren't profiting off it. By just spawning gp then it would be counter productive to the growth of their company.

Great point, this is why I figure that it's only the higher tiered people you describe as having the ability to create gold in the first place. jagex knows they won't abuse it.

Those guys make good money. They're not going to risk it because Jagex will be able to trace it right back to them. Not worth it on them to be honest.

Actually, you'd be surprised. Reading company reviews, there seems to be a stark disconnect between upper and lower management employees. If there was a lone wolf doing this and he was covering his tracks well enough, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised he could get away with it.

Especially if they were banning the accounts they sold to, I don't think upper management would blink an eye at a RWT ban. Most of the times people appealing those bans are ignored completely anyway.

So it's really just a question if someone was hypothetically doing this, could they (hypothetically) cover their tracks?

At the very least, it's incredibly interesting to think about.

I just don't see that happening. Jagex is a multibillion (or million) where I would think they'd be able to link accounts pretty easily. Who knows though!

Just depends on how much they pay attention to it I suppose. That's something none of us know about it. You'd like to think that they have it under control. But who's to say the upper-management isn't corrupt enough to do so? Money corrupts, wouldn't surprise me.

Though, yes, if I had to venture a guess, I'd say it doesn't happen. Too high a risk for too little a reward.

OK everyone keeps saying they could get away with ... especially if they kept banning accounts they sold to. Sounds like a bunch of superstitious n00bs who want to buy moeny but are scared because the big evil rogue jagex employee will be the one selling to them and then banning the account.

I haven't heard of anyone ever getting banned for buying gold. I know of many who have been banned for selling it though.

This would make everyone mad and jealous at Jagex, i'm pretty sure this wouldn't happen. Furthermore, Jagex mods can't trade, although i'm sure someone of MMG's status could change that.

You totally misconstrued everything that I said lol. I said it under the assumption that a Jagex mod actually sold gold and was trying to cover their tracks, which I already said was doubtful.

I've seen plenty of people banned for buying gp though, it's a lot smaller than sellers, but it exists. Couple of my friends got hit buying. Probably from chinese gold sellers, but still banned nonetheless.

I mean they make enough where they dont have to do that, but im not saying it's impossible in fact it prob has been done atleast once already.

I'd see it more a viable option if a Jmod were to kind of generate a partyhat now and then and give it to one of their distant poor potato eating irish relatives. Then these relatives RWT like regular people on sites and made a couple of grand on the side.

A jmod directly (personally) benefiting off of spawning items and RWTing them for a few extra bucks profit I don't see.
