    "I've pmed you."

Almost every single thread I look at in the market section has atleast three comments saying "I have pmed you." Now I have reported these posts as spam before however it appears that moderators or anyone really considers it spam, judging by how many of these posts I see.

If you sent somebody a private message then there is no reason to tell them on their thread. They know you messages them, and it is simply spam that you have to post that you have messages them. I see no reason for it and I believe that this issue should be cracked down on. People are using it as a way to boost their post count. Infractions should be given for this because I see it happening too often.

I am not suggesting that this be the mods #1 priority if it were to be considered spam. If it was considered spam then like other spam occurrences they would receive an infraction. If this were to happen it would stop people from doing this and promote less spam and more thought out posts. It if they want to post and message then instead of posting spam like "I've pmed you" then they should either post the same thing they said in their private message or not post at all.

I think that instead of posting just "I've pmed you" that users should post something similar to what they said in the message is they feel the urge or have been asked to post and message. However if they message and post just "I've pmed you" then it should be spam. If people start getting warned and such for it, in the long run it will promote better and more constructive posts.

You could argue that it generates competition to the market. However it generates spam. To prevent this the user could choose to either PM the seller or post. I see no reason to pm them something that could be said in the thread. If the buyer would like people to have competition generated then they could ask that they just repeat what they said in a private message or not the message them in the first place. Instead of the user saying "I've pmed you".

I think I could also rephrase this to mean that sellers shouldn't require people to post on their thread if they have already received a private message from that person. There would be no reason for someone to repeat the same thing in a post that they just sent in a private message.

Edited in a few of my posts from later in this thread to help more people understand more on what I am suggesting.

tl:dr Start considering I've pmed you spam.

Although I rarely do this, but I do admit to doing it a few times, I agree.

Just like you said, saying I pm'd you, on their thread, is pointless. Since they will get a pop up saying New Private Message! (Unless they change it)

Completely agree, that is spam and should be infracted if repeated.

Some people request that you post on their thread to show that you've got interest or even if you want to make the trade more transparent in case things go wrong.

There are a lot of things I consider to be worse, I mean these threads where you have 5 people in a row telling a newcomer about the rules for example. That is pointless and irritates me, if someone has made the point in the thread already - no one else needs to say the same thing over.

BTW Black tux, I'm syn from tribot :) I'm assuming you're the one and the same?

I see what you mean by that first part, however if something does go wrong they may take a picture of the private message as well. No difference between a picture of a private message and a forum post.

I agree, completely pointless telling someone they got a PM when they already get a pop up.

People are just less likely to talk BS in a wide open forum, that's just my opinion. I mean of course there are both sides to the story, but still, there are other things that irritate me more and moderating this would be difficult. Theres already so much spam to contend with.

    If the thread is like...
Selling an account in the gp trading sections.
And 5 people post "Wrong section"
All you do it report it, and all those 5 people who posted, will get that 1 post count removed.
Since the thread will be archived/deleted.

I don't see the big deal I mean are you really worried about someone getting 1+ post count. It may be annoying but why bother making a big deal about it.

Mods have much more important things to deal with then getting 500 report spam threads to search thru.

Because they do it on 30+ threads a day.
And you know how some people are, they base trust on postcount.

    no support.

in many cases that i have seen, people would much rather have you post on their thread so OTHER people can see the interaction. that way, if something goes down, people will know about it.

just the other day i decided to pm a member without posting on the thread, and he told me he did not want to trade seeing as i contacted him through pm alone.

Well I suppose when you do browse through selling sections, and you see a lot of posts on a thread. You automatically think "Oh, they're known for selling suchandsuch"
So that is probably why they have you post on their thread.

I have no idea why people would want this done, it is simple promoting spam. If something actually does go down then they have PERFECT proof, they can take a picture of their private message inbox. Also there is a risk of the person editing the post before the person can get a screenshot or quote so that idea is completely flawed.

Obviously it is not of the upmost importance, but it is no different then other rules such as bumping a thread more then once a day. Yes obviously it is not something very important but it still is something people can get infracted for.

I am not suggesting that this be the mods #1 priority, but I am requesting that it is something that is at least moderated and not something ignored. It is simply another form of spamming and it is too commonly overlooked. It would be nice to see it cracked down on.

I think that it is spam, but i don't think the user wanted to spam on purpose or let alone do it for post counts.
Therefore they should not be punished.

I agree with Poyzon as the user might not want to spam on purpose.
