Is boosting to climb bad?

I started playing late in season 3 and placed into silver. At first I thought I was better than most of the players on my team and they were holding me back. When I did my placements in Season 4 I ended up being bronze 5 and still thought I was in "elo hell" etc. I got boosted to bronze 2 and then realized watching the booster play that it was actually me who was the bad player. I logged back on and played a bunch of games and eventually fell back down to B5. Within a few weeks after playing with better people and realizing some of the stupid mistakes I made how to get better and climb back up on my own. Whenever I hit a plateau I got boosted again a few divisions up and surely enough fell back down but after playing and losing was eventually able to climb back up to where I originally got boosted to. I've been doing this since Bronze 5 and am now diamond 5 after getting boosted to diamond 5 from plat 5 where I ended season 4, falling all the way to plat 3 and climbing back up again after ~ a little over a month or so of playing a lot. I have been in diamond 5 for a little while now and never boost until I climb to where I originally got boosted to. I have an account that I play besides my main and try to follow into the same rank that I get boosted to / climb back up to that is currently plat 1 and has never been boosted. What are your guys' thoughts on this? And will doing this from Diamond 5 - 4 then 4-3 work granted I can continue doing it? Last season went from bronze - plat and got boosted, fell and climbed again for a total of around 2300 ranked games doing this.

When you get boosted, and then play at the rank you're boosted to, you get punished for mistakes that you wouldn't otherwise have been punished for in lower elo. As part of the basic learning and conditioning process, you incorporate this and overtime, don't make those mistakes anymore which means you improve.

Yes, there is certainly a mechanism that allows you to improve after you've been boosted, but it requires you to learn from your mistakes, so obviously being boosted from bronze 5 to diamond, not sure there's much you're going to learn since you're basically a bot and everything you do is a mistake. But moving up a few divions could help.

You can also do it without boosting if you take some time to understand the game and learn from the mistakes you make yourself.

Well I never went straight from bronze-diamond, but I see what you're saying. I try to make sure that I climb up to the original division I got boosted to before I boost again. Hmmmm.

its good for rewards but u wont improve urself as a player.

This is wrong.

When i first started (late season 3)i got a boost from silver 4 up to gold 5. I duoq'd most of these games and i learnt alot. Before the season ended i finished in gold 4. This shows that even though i was boosted i still improved and even managed to climb myself.

Playing with better players will generally make you a better one. You learn small little tips and tricks along the way which you implement into your own playstyle.

The only time you wont benefit is if you get boosted from (example) bronze all the way up to platinum/diamond.

I got boosted to S5, Tbh it was the same as bronze to me but I played better in Silver due to the fact that there were less trolls and feeders.

Alright. I'm just conflicted if I should keep doing this to climb. I know after playing with higher elo people than me and re-watching the game on LoLreplay and seeing things like oh if I tped there instead of earlier we would have gotten a double kill bottom or pushing mid instead of roaming was a bad idea in this type of situation and the next games I think I play better because of that.

Oh and I think I worded some things weird in my original post. When I said gt boosted from bronze-plat it wasn't all in one go. I boosted from bronze 5- bronze 2 fell back down and climbed up to silver 2 or 3 after a while. Boosted to gold 5 after around ~400 games in silver or something like that. Then the process continued as such for a while. Gold 4 - gold 2, then gold 1- plat 5. Totaled around 2300 ranked games played at the end of the season ending with me hopping between plat 4 and 5. Going from bronze- plat would be pretty much worthless and the most i ever jumped was from plat 5 - dia 5 which was probably not the best decision as I fell really quickly and tanked my mmr and took forever to get back up but I did after a few hundred games :D.

As long as you learn from your mistakes when you start playing after being boosted, assuming you have the mechanics.

I frequent Ranked 5's with my friends a lot, we're all high gold/plat/low diamond and we play a lot of D1/Masters teams. We definitely get punished for the stupid shit we pull and know not to make that same mistake in the future.

Yeah. I think I just need to play a few hundred more games and see where I end up/ fluctuate between. At the same time I want to play with people I know are better than me and learn what to do by playing with them. It's pretty easy to watch nightblu3 go 10/0 on Rengar, but implementing what he did and why he did it is a lot harder than playing and going like 0/6/1 Vi and realizing what you did wrong and losing because of it, then trying to do things differently next game.

Exactly this. Theres a definite threshold between where you can get boosted to and still be able to learn, and where you can get boosted to and just get shitstomped by better players.

yeah imo, it ruins the fun of seeing where you actually are rank wise. and then when you are at a boosted rank, you most likely cannot play as good as them.

Hey,
I started playing league early july 2014, I got to level 30 within the timespan of 2 months.
When I finally hit 30 I immediatly started playing ranked, after my promos I got placed in bronze 3. I started playing but noticed I didn't really get better.
After a few months I asked a friend of mine (who's plat) to duoq with me on a lower level account, and he did. Got me to about silver 4 and I was happy I hit silver. At first I really struggled against these silver players but eventually started playing better because I was playing with people that were better than me so I could learn from them. Once at silver 4, I was struggling again, and the season was comming to an end, so I asked another plat friend to help me out again. We just duoq'd and I got up to silver 2 ish. The week before the season was about to end (and I wanted to hit gold badly) his computer broke so we couldn't duoq anymore. But I wanted gold so bad I decided to just try and get gold myself (not duoq) I was doing fine, got to silver 1 on the last day. But the last day, every single one of my games there was this smurf playing for someone else to get them to gold for the rewards so whoever had the smurf on their team would win. I only got to silver 1 that season. After the season ended I really wanted to get better, so literally 1 week later I got to gold 5 - 4 (people were trolling a lot as the ranked ladders would reset in a few months anyway) Then finally, Kalista came out I had never really played adc but once I picked her up I immediatly climbed the ladders to high gold then I started duoqing with a support that was the same elo as me. Once the ladder reset we got placed in gold 2-1 and we got to plat 4-3. That's where I felt kalista got nerfed too much and I couldn't play her anymore. I had one problem though, I didn't have nearly as much succes on other ad carry's and going back to my old role mid lane was a disaster as I got wrecked by all those plat people. It took me 4 months of hard work to finally play like the other people in plat (I had dropped down to plat 5, but always got back to 4). Then finally when I found a new main (ahri I spammed her and got to Diamond where I am now, and I can play all roles at a high plat level and mid on a diamond level).

So in my story I didn't exactly get boosted but I can relate to it as I was in higher elo then I should have been.
I don't think boosting for a few divisions is a bad idea as it will help you play better as you're playing with better teammates and are playing against tougher opponents. Just don't go from bronze to diamond or you'll get crushed.
Those are my thoughts :) Hope I helped.

Yeah it helped. I am pretty sure after going to Dia 5 then dropping to plat then climbing up again that I can easily play at a low diamond level. Was wondering what people think of doing it to climb. Most answers and responses I got were as long as I am learning from it and not just boosting to look cool when someone hovers over my name then it's not too bad. I guess I am just nervous about knowingly going up to a division where I don't belong then trying to stay there and potentially runining peoples promos or games when they truly belong there. As far as smurfing goes, I'm like 5-1 on Vayne by myself in high plat - dia and played on my silver friends' accounts to help them out and got dumpstered a few times , that was really weird.

Funny enough I'm like 1-10 on vayne on my gold/plat smurf and like 70% winrate on everyting else xD.

It's kind of pointless to boost since the point of league is to be skilled, not have a high tier account. You couldnt really even play ranked at a certain point since you would lose every game vs better people.
