Hey... this isnt a fun rank
There's a lot of speculation about the skill, a lot of rumors still going around after being bashed by jagex... So here's some of the main ones:

Invention will require less xp to 99 -

False
This rumor was started because halfway between level 1 and 99 has been stated to be level 77 instead of 92. However, level 99 requires a total of 40mil xp instead of 13.2mil xp according to a chart released at runefest... So in reality, it will require MUCH more xp to get to level 99. However, it's LESS xp than a normal level 120 (104m xp). It only requires 80mil xp for level 120 (According to the same chart)

Invention is not required for Max cape

False (Maybe)
This rumor was started because a JMod said that 120 is required for comp cape and made NO comment about max cape... There is speculation that level 120 will be required for max cape as well, but I also cannot find any proof for that. However, I cannot find anywhere that a JMod has said that invention IS required for max cape, so this is still a possibility, but I'm saying it's false anyway...

Invention will cost a lot to level / Invention is a buyable skill-
False (Sort of)
This rumor was started by people believing that to level invention, you'll simply be deconstructing gear and creating augments. That is NOT true. It has been stated that the most efficient way to level invention is using your augmented gear. This means that the best xp/hour is from using augmented armor/weapons while fighting mobs. The only cost will be to recharge battery packs with divine energy. The cost of divine energy COULD make it an expensive skill, but that's the only reason.

The skill is technically buyable. But if I'm remembering correctly, a chart displayed at runefest stated 5% of xp comes from deconstruction. 25% of creating inventions. The rest (that would be 70% if my 5/25 is correct) comes from using augmented items in battle. So yes, it's buyable, but buying the skill will take A LOT longer than just killing shit.

Augmented Gear no longer degrades

True
Gear augmented with invention will no longer degrade HOWEVER it will then have a battery pack that will have to be recharged with divine energy from divination. It is also my understanding that t90 gear will drain the battery pack much faster than t70 gear, meaning it will still have a much higher cost to recharge - But this will mean that t90 augmented gear will NOT degrade to dust.

Invention will be a huge grinding skill

True & False
This rumor was started by those who somehow got it in their head that leveling invention will be nothing but deconstructing gear and creating inventions. However, it has been said by JMods at Runefest, as well as in the Podcast on Tuesday Nov. 3rd that the most efficient way of leveling invention will be to use your augmented items. So if all you do is boss all day, just augment your gear and boss all day. You'll be getting the best xp/hour. This COULD be considered a grind, but as you're not focusing purely on that skill, and can just do what you normally do, I do not consider it a grind. Therefore, I've labeled this as both true and false.

I am unsure, but if skilling items can be augmented just like combat gear, for example, possibly augmenting a rake to have special properties (Can't think of any possible properties a rake could have...) you would also be able to gain invention XP while farming. However, I have NO IDEA if skilling items will be able to be augmented. So for now, just go by invention is best leveled by doing combat with augmented gear.

Augments on gear are permanent -
False
HOWEVER!!! The first batch release of invention, will supposedly be permanent from what I've heard (source needed) and the second batch will allow items to be augmented and augments later removed. However, regardless if they are removable from the start, or from the level 100 - 120 update, they will NOT be permanent once the skill is 100% released. (Note that I do not know if items augmented before the 2nd invention update update will be able to have the augments removed after the update)

Augmented Items Will Have Unique Looks -
True
This one hasn't been talked about anywhere... But at once I've started using images, thought I'd just show the Death Lotus Armor they displayed at Runefest. Armors/Weapons will have ANIMATED MOVING parts on them, they said they plan to have more later on, but for now, all they have is moving cogs and glows. The new parts will always be on the left side of the chest and right leg of legs. Weapons also have added moving parts.

EDIT: Alot of my information came from a friend who watched the Pod Cast on Nov. 3rd. However I have ONLY watched the runefest video. He either translated the Podcast wrongly, or this has now been changed, but if the error was in the information he gave me, then invention might end up being buyable. I haven't had time to get around to watching the pod cast but plan to sometime this next week (maybe) but going back through the runefest video I found an issue where I said runefest claimed that most xp will come from combat (item leveling) but the chart in the runefest video disagrees - The friend claimed podcast said item leveling will be most XP, but here's the runefest chart - If anyone else watched the podcast and they did indeed change it to where item leveling is the most xp, please let me know.

EDIT 2: In the Runefest Vid, he does mention "building tools" so leveling up invention while using tools IS confirmed after all... Still can't for the life of me think of a perk you could augment onto a rake though...

Very nice, thank you for putting this together.

Only thing that looks retarded is the random XP amount.

Hey... this isnt a fun rank
I think the XP amount was because it's an elite skill. It required 80 in 3 other skills to even start leveling this one, and they also wanted it to be more equal throughout the levels, making it more balanced with the amount of time required steadily inclinding. It'll take MUCH longer to get to level 60 in invention than it would any other skill HOWEVER it will take the same amount of time to reach level 99 as a normal skill, even though you're getting 40mil xp instead of 13.2m. And it appears invention will actually be quicker to get to 120 than normal skills(but also requires about 24mil xp less than normal skills). However, I'm not sure how they figure this up as not all skills take the same amount of time to get to 99... If 99 thieving and 99 dungeoneering took the same amount of time, I wouldn't hate dungeoneering so much lol.

This chart was revealed at Runefest, so the information on it could have changed by now:

It is scheduled to be released in January 2016 I believe.

Potions/Food shouldn't go up too much, if any.

Only thing that looks retarded is the random XP amount.

I mean, other skills have a random XP amount as well, so it fits in.

OT: Great job putting this all together so that we can get accurate information :)

What are the perks?

latest_4.png

Not real sure what they do yet.... But they are the augments... I'm not real sure what the 40% is... By looking at the graph, I would say the "Item Leveling" is using augmented items (items with perks added to them) but I still haven't watched the pod cast, and according to an in-game friend, the most XP comes from using the augmented items.

His info has always been good, and he claims that they said on the pod cast that most of the XP comes from using items that have had augments added to them. So that's what I'm going with.

Thanks for the layout Grim! Hopefully the bossing thing isn't too OP as I'm a skiller, so if combatters are going to get better xp/hr just by killing things, really annoys me. :(

When I was skipping through the rune-fest video to take a screenshot of the graph showing the XP % in my edit, I stumbled upon one of the mods (don't know their names) saying you'd be making weapons armor and tools (not his exact words) so I assume that items used to skill, pick axes, axes, etc will also be augment-able and also used to gain XP in the skill the same way that combat items can. (But that is just an assumption)

Thanks for posting this, very beneficial especially to me as ive done no research on the skill whatsoever.

Hey... this isnt a fun rank
According to some newly released info, the chart above WAS correct - Using items with perks attached IS only 20% of XP and it seems that the creation of perks will give the most xp - Still haven't listened to the pod cast to confirm other info that could have possibly been misinterpreted and am currently playing Fallout 4... So don't expect me to watch the pod cast any time soon...

Therefore, for now, consider this thread "possibilities" instead of absolute facts. Will get all the facts right at a later time hopefully.

Sounds like it'll be a grinder skill then, damn. Was hoping for more of a buyable, but 20% XP sounds pretty slow :\

I can't wait for this to be released, looking forward in playing around with the modifications on weapons!

Hey... this isnt a fun rank
This no loger applies... They've changed a lot and I haven't been keeping up to date... The one thing I know for sure is that they've changed the XP curve and level 77 won't be halfway to 99 anymore. I'm not sure what else has been changed, or what halfway is now (I'm assuming 92 like others though) so this thread can be closed/deleted/whatever.
