I want to make a game

Do some reading about what really goes into making a game, and try to get a good idea on what you would have to do.

 

Forum based game? How does that work? :/

What time period would you base it in?

 

Forum Based Game would be a game where you post on forums for the majority of game play. It would be a lot of server-side text based things as well. For instance:
You click the "Fight a Monster" button on the top of the site.
You choose where you want to look for a monster.
You find a monster around your level, depending on where you look.
You kill it and find some rare loot and it goes into your inventory.
You make a post on the forum saying you want to sell it.
You find a user you want to trade and click the "Trade" button on the top of the site.
You enter the username of the user you want to trade.
You click on the item you want to trade, and the amount of gold you want for it.
The other person accepts the charge and the item.

For PvP:

Click on the "Fight a Player" button on the top of the site.
You enter the username of the player you want to fight.
You choose what you want to do for 5 turns. (Cast Fireball, Melee, Melee, Cast Iceball, Melee).
Both players lose HP depending on how much damage you do. (Duh)
Repeat until death.
Winning player gains PvP rating.

A lot of the forum based things would be like RP, Shops, etc. The forums would be the main source of communication.

The time period varies. Like you start out with like a sword or something. Then later on you can find/buy guns and stuff.

 

I'm guessing you're talking about a game such as urban rivals? anyways I may be willing to join depending on if the other people you are working with know what there doing, and you're dedicated to doing this I dislike wasting my time and people who waste my time.

Do any of you know how to program? I've heard that it's hard to make a game when you don't.

 

a text game is pretty simple to make, yet you still need to know how to code it.

Also if your aiming to make a game like runescape your going to need real programmers lol

edit: i remember making a simple minesweeper game, and just that needed a heap of code.

Please do not try to insult my skills. that is quite ignorant of you, as I learned from someone who far surpasses you, or anyone else on this site when it comes to java coding. and I would almost be willing to bet that I am better than the majority of the java coders on this site. sythe is honestly more for debating and selling rs garbage. no one really looks to it for programming...

( no offence to anyone who uses the programming sections.)

He stated he wanted to make it as a text game with possibly some simple animations and avatars etc. Nothing too special. An I will never take on another online game that is to the extent of runescape. as it is by far too time consuming and people always tend to feud on where the game is headed.

 

I know how to program, but I honestly think a forum based game is a waste of time.

I've worked with 3D engines before, they're a lot more fun - just a tad more complicated.

 

ya. text based games..are kinda stupid....no offence i would prefer a 3D virtual something like runescape or WoW not like mario or something.

 

Mario= 2d platform game
Mario != text-base game

 

Accepted for scripting job. The people i am working with on the 3d game have nothing to do with this, because as i said, it is at a halt. I am dedicated to seeing this game through. The kind of game i want to make is like gaia mixed with text based combat and less minigames.

I am going to need at least 1 IM screen name for contact purposes. I reccommend http://www.meebo.com/ if you don't want to download anything. Once that happens you will be accepted.

This game won't be as graphical as RuneScape. Your website looks ok, and if you can do 100 times better then thats great! Accepted.

The game will be NOTHING like mario for one. Two, you should expand your appreciation for games, and not judging them just because they are not graphical. Three... shut up

 

Sounds very interesting, I think you can do this. All you need is the right people, then you've got it in the bag. I for one will join this game once it has been established!

I really hope we can get this game up and running. I might not be on for a while, as i will be on an RV for 3 weeks with only the family laptop to use. I will be able to oversee the project from there. Making a community website right now.

 

u had me at people to think of stuff...........lulz, well i have basic knowledge in html but im still not sure if i should apply to this project, as i am helping my friend with a naruto rpg and about to be mod on his pokemon website that is about to release there pkmn rpg made in flash.....not to brag or anything...but yea....
