Jagex doubled their number of employees this year. What do you think a lot of these people are doing..

Thanks for the informative post, Sythe.

Judging by the two images, looks as though it will make a huge difference in regards to graphics.

Despite what people think about EoC, killing the game and all, it will probably be the thing to boost this game's numbers and popularity. Intuitive gameplay on a web browser based MMO, that's big stuff!

    Compared to Java, yes
Compared to other non-browser based MMOs out there? Nah.

I don't think that the graphics will take much of a position in recruiting new members.
Sure, those who are gave played before and/or are playing now before this update will notice it, but new users will still think that the graphics are crap :p

Mind you that I dn't have a clue why the current Java version doesn't run on our mobile devices and why the HTML version will.
But I'm sure that this expanse of devices capable of running the game will attract a lot of new and old users for reasons given by Sythe; kids playing with ther phones while waiting for the buss and such.

Remember, people on mobile devices are aware that they can not run games with monster graphics. The best I've seen is infinit blade, but that is a game that utilizes its free-movement limits and has taken advantage of it.

However, there will be no need for runescape to do the same, because it never had such limits in the first place.

All I am wondering now is wha Jagex will do with the mobile version if they make one. I'm pretty sure that pking or any other combat is a bad idea on a 3G connection.

It will most likely have dedicated servers for it, so everyone has the same handicap.

In all honesty, I can't say that I'm looking forward to the update at all.

I do think that although their corporate figures are likely growing even if only by a little, they should have considered separate servers for the two different styles of game-play.

Yes the new game will attract new players and will definitely bring in a lot of new revenue, but would a smart business move not have been to keep the old existing players around too?

Giving players a choice between the two different games would have literally been the prime way to go about this:

    - Higher increased revenue.
    - Player-base Happy.
    - Improved profits/membership income (people that pay for both servers).

Although the downside would be the increase of staff to maintain both servers, with the increased revenue and profits & the steady income from the older players/users too, this shouldn't be close to a problem.

These are just my opinions though, what do I know I'm just a salesman.

Well, jagex has Been talking about Runescape 3, and this might be it. It's too big of an update to simply be an "update," they're changing the game engine, thus making it more sense to be Runescape 3 than Runescape: improved.
So it's possible that there will be a couple of separate servers around for the previous java version as well. But that's just my theory.

But what reasons could be there for people want to go back?
I personally would like the improved graphics (even though its not much) and the abilitynto play on my ipad.

I'm genuinely excited for the update. I'll be playing again for a little bit when it comes out. I'm more excited for the potential increase in activity on Sythe though!

This is the most interesting thread I have seen in a long time, and I 100% agree with it. Runescape is making a massive comeback, and this is going to attract thousands of new players, and old players coming back to the game that jagex has lost due to some of their updates.

Bots will be completely abolished for roughly 6 months, in my opinion, and even then, the bots that will be publicly available will be terrible. I'm looking forward to this, and seeing what Jagex can do.

This is like saying its going to be a bad winter every year, its not going to happen. 124k+ players online at once or more is nowhere near "dead".

Half of those players are bots.

Alright lets just say 62k are legit and 62k are bots. When those 62k bots are wiped out do you think that will bring back 62k players (who some quit because of botting) back to the game? Jagex seems to think so.

In my youth, Runescape and Neopets were the two big games, both have slowly died down in popularity, yet I don't see them going anywhere in the near future. Any game can be revived with the right content update and change to availability. I can imagine if I were still in school, I would be pking at recess with my buddies, having a good laugh and generally enjoying myself, and the game. There are plenty of reasons why this update will add growth to the game, it may not be an overwhelming number but to assume no growth will be made seems naive.
