Getting Ready
1. Open up task manager then go to the processes tab.
To do so, press ctrl + alt + Delete
2. Open up command prompt
To do so, go to run, type in "cmd" without quotes and hit OK
3. In command prompt, type in "del" without the quotes.
4. Put the folder path name of the folder into command prompt. (Example: I:\Documents and Settings\Bob\Folder1)
5. Put that in command prompt.
It should look like this (Varies on folder/file name)
The Process
1. Make sure task manager and command prompt are open at the same time!!! Do not have them minimized or closed!!!!
2. In task manager, delete the process "explorer.exe"
Your toolbar and desktop icons will dis-appear, and anything that is minimized after doing this cannot be re-opened until a new path is specified.
DO NOT CLOSE TASK MANAGER!!
3. Since you already have everything entered in command prompt, just press enter and it will delete the file.
4. Go back to task manager. Now, go to the "Applications" tab and go to "New Task" There, type in "explorer.exe" without the quotes.
If you do accidently close out of task manager while explorer.exe is terminated, just reboot your computer. Everytime a reboot happens, explorer.exe is reset into your processes. :]
Or, you can just press ctrl + alt + Delete again (Submitted by SuF, thanks man)
How does this work?
The only possible way that the file could be being used is by another application. If someone else is using it, they have to be using it through the internet. Explorer.exe is the internet. If you terminate it, they will lose connection with you and you are open to delete it. The reason you have to delete it through command prompt is because the folder and files you will be trying to delete dis-appear once you terminate explorer.exe. Thats just how it is >_<
