I don't see a tutorial on this, so I might as well post one up including how to use SSL.
Connecting to the Sythe IRC network via mIRC
Firstly, download the latest mIRC version @
When installing, it is recommended that you keep the autoupdater checked so you know when there's a new release. There are hardly any security issues, but there are lots of improvements in new versions.
Also note: mIRC is nagware, and not software you MUST pay for. Nagware is something which, after a trial period is over, nags you by putting up a 5-10 second window you can't get out of asking you to purchase it. After that, you can just click continue.
After you've installed mIRC, open it up and click continue on the windows that pop up about the trial version. You'll get a window in front of mIRC like this:
Fill it out, and click ok. You'll now be returned to the mIRC window. Type the following to connect to Sythe:
You can also type the following
After you type out the command and enter, you'll have to wait a few seconds while the network sorts everything out, then you'll be fully connected.
To take advantage of all the features of an IRC network, consider registering your nickname. It will prevent other users from accessing your nickname and you can use other features that aren't available to non-registered nicknames. To register a nickname (after 90 second connection), type the following:
You'll be sent an e-mail with a command that you must copy/paste or type out to activate your nickname registration. After that, you're fully registered and each time you connect you type the following to identify yourself:
Here are a few basic commands that'll help you greatly (though consider looking at the IRC commands thread in this forum also)
If you want to display colors like you may see other people do, press CTRL+K and a color-format box will appear. You don't have to click the color, just type the number of the color and type your text after it. To end a 'color tag' (like in forums with [/color]) just type CTRL+K again but don't type a number.
Connecting VIA SSL
Connecting via SSL is simple. All you need to do is download a program, then connect normally via mIRC but by adding a few extra characters onto the end of the connection. A banana can do this.
Download & install (click) OpenSSL. Make sure you meet all the requirements. To install, move the files into your mIRC directory or system32 folder.
Open up mIRC normally, and type out the following command to connect to the Sythe IRC network with an SSL port:

Code:
/server -m irc.sythe.org (if you are in another IRC network, this -m switch will open up a new server tab and not disconnect you from the other network)
/server irc.sythe.org -j #sythe (using this switch will instantly join the channel #sythe on connection. Can be used to join multiple channels by separating them with commas)
After you type out the command and enter, you'll have to wait a few seconds while the network sorts everything out, then you'll be fully connected.

/join #[u]channel[/u] - Joins a channel. ALL channels start with a #.
