How do you see Canada?

Maple syrup, celine dion, ice hockey, francais & cold winters. The stereotypical things jump to mind

I often feel like Canada is to America what Scotland is to the UK - the bit on the top that they make fun of. Both cold as fuck Because there's this whole.. thing about Canadians being stupid that people reference to all the time it kind of spoils what it really should be - same how Scottish people are pretty heavily labelled as rude, daft & loud.

Stereotypes aside, I know people who've been and loved it. Seems to be a lot of cool things to visit and the landscapes seem wicked. Definitely somewhere I'd like to visit.

I go up to Canada pretty much every year, for me the first things I think of when someone mentions Canada are the Trailer Park Boys and poutine, but as a country Canada doesn't ever really seem to come up in discussion, it's kinda like Canada is not even there.

 

Don't forget the supposed hospitality, eh?

If you have never woken up to 15 feet of snow on the ground and still snowing outside you're missing out. Its beautiful.

I'm from the Maritimes in Canada and I must say there isn't much going on here.
Other then the french Canadians egos and the odd car accident it's a fairly calm place.

 

Wait Canada is the only place that eats poutine? You guys are fucked..

 

Lele i heard americans make a version with that kraft yellow cheese. Also chilli fries are quite popular down there(in never had em)

ill disregard the personal shot @ me and agree witcha. from what ive been told, he wasn't all that bad as a mayor. cut taxes and kept the city in a good financial state (this could all be wrong, i lack any interest in researching any of the bullshit). shame he was an absolute disaster of a human being

Hit the nail on the head. From what I've seen on TV and read in popular media, Canada is essentially the Scotland of the States (I know it isn't, but that's how it's perceived by many Brits).

I'd love to visit Canada one day, more so than the U.S. Also, in my line of work I have very high earning potential with money going further than it does here in the U.K.

Referring back to the first page (near OP), Canada's political system sounds nearer to the U.K's than the U.S'; interesting!

P.S - how true is this whole "aboot" thing? Pretty sure that's another popular misconception stereotype..

 

The aboot thing is more of a stereotype for Maritimers. "Eh" legit we say it all the time, its used to put emphasis on something. Canada is a lot closer to European culture regarding political and social ideals.

 

Canadians are friendly and nice people i like them

First thing that comes to mind is two whiskeys (Canadian Hunter and Canadian Mist)

I'll then think about the documentary I watched over this guy that sells marijuana seeds there and made millions without government caring for a long time.

But then I think I could never live there.. because of the strict gun laws.

Gun laws aren't that strict tbh. We got plenty of guns per capita hehe.
