Gun control

Going to have to agree with juvenilepunk, they should only be sold to people who have a clean record (not saying people with clean records wont commit crimes), but less likely chance, and making them legal would be stupid I think, people walking around with guns on the street? People wouldn't feel safe.

Gun control has really gotten out of control in recent days.
While I generally agree that people with violent/gun related felonies should be barred from buying a firearm, I don't agree that crime would skyrocket if restriction were suddenly lifted. If a felon really wanted a gun he/she could steal one or buy one off the street. Most of the time gun control effects only law abiding citizens and creates hassle to those wanting something for recreation or defense.

If guns were outlawed the only people with access to guns would be the criminals. Places like Washington D.C. or Great Britain that have great gun control generally have higher violent crime rates. If you were a criminal would you rob the town where guns are illegal or would you rob the one that has lax concealed-carry laws where most people own guns? Because of the impossibility of complete gun abolishment and lack of crime deterrents gun control doesn't prevent violent crime effectively. Politicians blame guns for out of control crime rates when most of the time that isn't the problem. Take a look at this graph of violent crime vs gun ownership in Great Britain over the period when they enacted gun legislation:

It seems this forum is crawling with people dreaming of a perfect world where guns can be controled through legistlation. In reality if guns were banned or near impossible to obtain the only people affected would be law abiding citizens that should be given the right to own firearms. Criminals would continue robbing, mugging, and terrorizing. Leaving the people defenseless is a bad idea.

So because crims can get guns then everyone should get guns?
Im glad im living in australia, i know im not going to get shot. In america i bet you hear on the news alot about someone being shot, armed robberies, school shootings etc.
And seriously, have a gun at home isnt going to protect you when your at work, school, whatever. your not alowed to carry guns down the street, which is most likely where your going to get shot. you cant say, oh hang on, let me go home and get my gun first

gun Control Is A Steady Hand

Yes and No, I mean, most people buy firearms for protection. People really don't need like Ak-47's or M4 Rifles for protection in their house so the government limits that so people wouldn't cause mass destruction in their neighborhoods or something I guess.

And no, because if some people have proper training and or use it for hunting or ranges that allow you to practice shooting etc, the government shouldn't limit what you can and cannot own.

No, I don't support any gun control over any citizen that is not a felon or an ex-con.

Why, not because I have a right to own a gun, because I don't think making the gun control laws more strict will decrease crime.

Guns are not like alcohol. In the US, we abuse alcohol because we're not accustomed to drinking it in moderation as Europeans are.

When guns are not controlled, people use them to fight with. Sudenly, the dude with the gun has the upperhand in the fight. Instead of hand against hand, it's guns against guns.

If I punch someone, I can then think "Oh man, that wasn't such a good idea".

Like the other day.. Some kid hit me with a piece of cardboard or something minor. I turned around and kicked him really hard. My foot hurt for a few days and right after I kicked him, I realized it wasn't such a good idea. As humans we have certain reactions that are uncalled for and motivated wrongfully. Pulling that trigger could be the worst mistake you ever made. Instead of kicking or punching someone, you would kill them.

I know I can't live with that kind of guilt.

Guns don't give second chances.

People do kill people but guns also do kill people.

Then there shouldn't be any concern about me purchasing an AK-47, correct?

If someone is going to go on a rampage, they'll find a method with which to do it, whether or not they can get their hot little hands on an AK47. The problem isn't legal gun ownership, it's illegal gun ownership. Take the VT incident for instance, he got his guns from an illegal peddler.

I'm not a gun control proponent. If the government cannot tell its citizens what they can or cannot own, then they should have no problem with me purchasing an AK-47.

Actually, if guns are legal, it is far easier for people to go on a rampage.

I know a guy that owns 2 fully automatic sub-machine guns and a 12ga with less than 12" barrel. He is a collector, gun enthusiast, and a hunter. Ive shot them before and his chances of going on a rampage is pretty much 0. Very few murders have been done using automatic weapons. The current federal system for registering guns of this kind is an expensive and difficult process. The problem is not with these guns but with the illegal gun trade.

Every citizen should be aloud to own a gun. They need to crack down more on illegal guns than registered guns. The theory of taking away fire arms is that the less guns that are around the less gun violence there will be, but if the gov. did decide to take away guns do you really think any criminal or gang member is going to turn in there guns? prolly not. so it becomes more dangerous for citizens if guns are taken away because all the criminals will have guns and that leaves a person no way to defend themselves evenly. also if all guns are gone i believe there would be an increase in burglaries, because no longer would anyone have to worry about getting shot will robbing a house.

And how do you propose cracking down on illegal guns?

I think that the gun is a symbol of our country, we fought with it in all the wars and helped us survive(i.e. hunting) I also think that guns must be used in self-defense.

eeek dont shoot me loil.

"Guns don't kill People, People kill People."

One of the best quotes ever. Forgot who.

If you want to kill someone you have a million and one ways of doing it, about 10,000 of those you wont get caught for if you do it right. I can kill someone with my person if I had the need. Is the government going to put on padded mittenZ for everyone to decrease the kill rate? No, the government has no concern over people that haven't done anything wrong.

Also I would like to argue the point "handguns are made to kill, not for sport." This is somewhat true. But have you ever heard of birdseed? It is basically a mini shotgun shell used for revolvers and such. These are used to hit clay pigeons and such. And I should be able to carry a handgun (with a concealed weapons license) for m own protection if I wish it. If I see some dude running at me with a knife, for whatever reason, I want to gain the upper hand. Not necessarily shooting him but at least make him explain what he's doing or make him stop.

real talks... why r guns needed... i know sum of u gonna say for war but why do we need war... its just shows how lazy the leaders r they dont wanna fight themselves in a debate or something... as a little kid i once thought if i was president instead of war i'd challenge the enemy to a steel cage match one on one lol but like they shud do something like that talkig it out not kill people from ur own country... point is... guns arnt needed or wanted
