Have the new rule for OMMs.

Not to accept pics over msn. Maybe that's how Nick got the RAT.

There's another kid on another site that claims to have hacked an OMM of Sythe today. He won't release the name though. He showed the account he got from his RAT.

 

You pretty much need common sense.
Only accept files from people who you trust over MSN.

 

Apparently not many people do that.

 

Not many people are OMMs. Its a common sense thing not to do, anything in a .txt can be send directly over MSN.

 

Haha, I saw that thread yesterday on that site. I even messaged a few mods when I saw it (of course no response). Its sucks that people can't keep their accounts safe.

I don't see how having a rule telling the OMM what they can/can't do on MSN would make sense, though. If a OMM doesn't feel comfortable accepting something, I don't see who's forcing them too..

 

Yeah thats what some guy tried to do to me today, I think it was [email protected] I may be wrong but I am almost 100% sure it was that guy because he sent me a picture. I tried to accept it but it got blocked by WindowsOne Live and McAfee. Nuff' Said.

 

If they drop a picture into msn then it should be displayed with that "sharing" thing. If it doesn't, then you know it's fake.

If it's common sense, then why are they getting hacked? The important thing is not to accept anything.

If they've got a RAT on your computer, they can block you from entering Sythe, going to Runescape and many more. >_< People aren't taking the appropriate measures IMO.

 

There is a way to change it to file transfer and not a sharing window.

 

Well, we only accept either the sharing window or tinypic. Having a rule for only OMM's is stupid. There's only like 6 of us.

It should just be common sense, not a rule. Sythe can't dictate what you do outside of the site.

 

Why not just put a sticky in the Middleman forums or a Black Market sticky.

 

I never accept anything over MSN, I always have them upload it to tinypic.

 

The only way people can stop this from happening is if they use Meebo or Ebuddy or whatever, when you download display pictures and the new chat backgrounds in the normal MSN client you just download them from the other user's computer. You can just look up their IP in Wireshark and bam.

This is not how they get RATs on their system though, that may or may not be part of it. The only way they can possibly get a RAT on your system/network is if your system is unprotected or just vulnerable. There are millions of settings you can check and millions of tricks they can use but in the end the more you know, the more you prevent.

My suggestion:
Make sure they are computer smart before allowing them to handle that much stuff/cash. If they don't know what they are doing they could seriously be endangering themselves and others.

The point in this post is: you can get their IP regardless of whether or not they accept a file (it's just the easiest, of course). There are a million ways for people to get your IP. If people could just fuck your system up and log everything you do by having your IP people would be totally screwed. Windows itself does not come vulnerable to all these attacks, it's our unguided customization and changes that enables hackers to do this.

 

I think we should leave it to natural selection. Sensible MMs and OMMs will prosper, the foolish will not.
