    Growing up too fast

I'm currently 17. I find it hard to fathom that I'll be considered an adult after my next birthday. Did anyone else have this feeling?

I feel too immature to be considered an adult. Don't get me wrong, I have a fairly high IQ and have stellar academics across the board.

Believe it or not I know exactly what you mean. I recently turned 18 and I will be the first to admit that age has nothing to do with growing up. Maturity and responsibility are what defines you as "grown up", adulthood has nothing to do with it. Don't beat yourself up over being immature, loads of people just develop maturity at a slower rate, and in time you will find yourself moving forward on the path......If you ever need to just talk, as I know this can be a difficult time, and the transition takes some getting used to, PM me or add my msn: [email protected].

    Eh.

I feel my life is ahead of me.

    I'm 16.

I drive, I drink, I fight, I do drugs, I have sex, I'm working in an apprenticeship.

I'm doing everything an adult does besides manage kids.

I know what you mean, I'm currently 17 as well and I'm starting to get bigger responsibilites (Job, etc,). I can't believe that it's happening in front of my eyes, but unfortunately it is. Whether we like it or not we all have to grow up sooner or later.

I was 15 and started my apprenticeship and was in full time work , i think you will find the transition from school to work alot easier if the people around you are doing the same thing. Hardest part about work is waking up

Im now 21, and wish i was 17 again, getting old sucks balls not going to lie but look at your grand parents and imagine them 50 years ago an wonder if they ever wanted to be old an wrinkling , is a fact of life, better get used to it.

Look on the plus side atleast you can drink legally (unless your from america) LOL

I went through the same thing when I turned 18. I'm still a little scared of growing up but really age is just a number (that can unfortunately be used against you in society). You're gonna have to adjust to some things as you get older but you never really have to grow up mentally.

I thought I was gonna die before my 18th birthday. When I turned 18, I felt absolutely no different.

Your issue is not whether or not you feel ready, it's based on your standards for an adult that you don't feel ready for.

Let me run you through my day. I get up, take a shower, hang out with my fiancee, go to work, come home, get on my computer, go to sleep, and do it all over again the next day. Sure, I have to take care of myself, get dressed, plan my future, and all that jazz... but so what? I mean, is that it?

Adults don't have so much responsibility. Taking care of kids isn't as hard as it sounds either, because after you do it a for a few weeks, it becomes so second nature. Not only that, but don't put so much responsibility on your shoulders at once. You may be turning 18, and you might have to start filling out paperwork yourself, but you live and you learn. You don't have to immediately move out, get a job, get married, have kids, grow old and die. You have YEARS before you have to start worrying about everything, and even then... take each day in stride, because it's really not that hard.

This year, focus on getting out of school and getting a job. If you have a place to stay, just do that. You should know how to count by now, add up everything you have to pay, work more than that so you can save up and still have some YOU money, and live your life. Plan for the future, but live for today. It's pie :).

I have the same feeling. I am currently 18, turning 19 in April and I am almost done with my first year of college. It is amazing how fast time flies, but we all gotta grow up sometime.

It sucks dude, I sorta feel the same way but I don't think about it as much as I used to when I was 14-15. You'll come to accept it eventually. In the mean time live it up, have some fun while you can. Life is short so make the most of what you can do now (cliche goes something like that :p).

I went through the same thing. I turned 18 thinking everything would just fall on my shoulders, and in a lot of ways it did. But it's kinda cool to have all the responsibilitys that come with being an adult, if your an independent person that is ;), just dont worry about it. Everyone grows up some day.

Ya don't think of it as "your getting old" or "you won't be able to handle all the adult responsibilities"
Just think of it as another challenge throughout your life.

You've had to get through High School (big challenge)
You've had to deal with girls (never ending monstrous challenge)

And now You have to deal with a few more obstacles.
It's not like your on your own though. Your friends and family are (hopefully) always willing to lend you a hand. or answer questions ya know?

It's not as bad as people make it seem.
Growing old just opens more doors of opportunities.
Growing older just open different doors of opportunities.

    Good luck mate.

    I feel the same way except I'm 19. -.-"

I still wonder (upto an hour ago) about the fact that many people my age have kids, responsibilities, incredible achievements etc. yet all I have is above average IQ and academic credentials. I also ponder over the fact that many people I know haven't seen this age and much of life so I'm thankful and use it as motivation.
That's what you think, being an adult fulltime is much different. ;)

    Growing up too fast

I felt like this on the night before my 16th birthday, about 2 hours before I was legally 16.

I was sitting there smoking a bowl with my bestfriend, wondering where the hell all the time went. I felt like it was just yesterday that I was playing outside without my shoes on and riding scooters and pretending that toy guns were real.

Then I got a bong for that birthday, everything else slips my mind.

Again on my 18th birthday I felt like this though. I don't smoke weed anymore and I feel like I have done alot of growing up. I have a job, a car, responsibilities, just general shit I gotta take care of.

Maturity sets in eventually. You'll realize whats more important to you. I turned 18 in December. Since then I still feel like i've done alot of growing up. Just enjoy your life. You haven't got a whole lot to worry about until your around 30. I've never met anyone who was 21-24 that I thought didn't have some immaturity to them. Its all part of having fun.

You only live once so you might as well live it up.

Very few people are actually mature at 18. Some people have to be based on their family situation and others just end up being so anyways. If you don't have to go live on your own and work full time then try to have some fun still. You will mature and feel like an adult soon enough.
