Game making my computer SUPER loud.

So, I used to play dragon age origins on an old computer and it made the computer extremely loud, I imagined it was just the computer getting hot and the fans going crazy because at the time, it was the highest graphical game I had ever played on the computer and its specs sucked horribly. But now, I've decided to play it on my newer computer, and it's doing the same thing!!!

The weird part, I've played skyrim + ran rsbot at the same time for over 12 hours a day some days and the computer didn't make any loud whirring noises at all. I play DA:O for 5 minutes and it sounds like an air conditioner sitting next to me. There is no way in hell that DAO can be harder on a system than a fully modded (200+ mod) skyrim with all DLCs can be. Seriously what the fuck.

System Specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system
AMD FX 6100 six-core processor
10.gb of RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7450 Graphics

 

Why don't you run speedfan or another monitoring program and see what component is heating up /what fans are ramping up and then just deduce the problem from that. Not much we can do with so little information.

We also don't know what settings you are running each game at. 200+ mods means nothing at all in the realm of things when those mods can be something as simple as UI changes or just add saturation to the game etc.

OK, well it seems this older game, with half-assed graphics compared to other games, atleast according to speedfan is using almost 100% of the cpu of ALL SIX processors. temp2:69C and GPU:67C. both of them have a fire symbol by them. and temp 1 has a green checkmark while temp3, hd2, hd1 and the 2nd hd2 all have blue down arrows. This still doesnt make sense to me as why this game would cause such problems when i can run skyrim on max graphics as well as rsbot at the same time and my system not get to hot ever after 12 hours of straight gaming.

 

It might just be a very poorly optimized game, just because you have the hardware doesn't mean the software will work well with it. Make sure you patch your game to the latest patch, have the latest drivers for your video card etc. It could also be that the game is using your CPU for calculations that other games would use the GPU for.

Again if its an old game it could be that its just very poorly optimized.

 

Its not to old, 2008 I think. But The other computer I played it on was only a dual processor. theres never any lag or anything, it just makes the computer REALLY loud. I've seen other posts about people having the same problem on other sites, but none of them have gotten answers to why.

I have the latest game patch, all drivers are newest versions also, but if its one of the possible problems you listed, with the gpu and such, is that fixable? The fans run so hard I'm a bit worried it might kill the computer. The last computers hard drive and graphics card died not to long after finishing the game, around a month I think.

 

After some more searching seems I was right, AMD processors are especially plagued with a memory leak problem with this game which never seemed to be addressed. It doesn't cause you to lag per say but it will cause all of your cores to hang at 100%.

A fix I saw was try running the game in windowed mode. Report if that helps your CPU run the game normally.

 

I always play in windowed, because I talk to people on facebook while I play my games (so no, doesnt help )

 

try turning on vsync

 

Also didn't work I dont mean for you to do all the work for me Unless you just enjoy searching the net, I could do some searching myself if you'd share what youre searching, I googled "Dragon Age Origins making computer loud" and only found forums with useless information with people asking the same things I am, but not a single useful answer such as you've given though.

 

Well now that you know its your cpu try googling with that instead of 'loud' since you know the CPU is under 100% load try changing the search to something like "Dragon Age Origins 100% CPU Load".

Should yield some results.

 

Alright, for anyone that comes across this thread that has the same problem....

Bring up task manager, go to processes, right click daorignis.exe and click "set affinity" and make the game run on only 1 processor.

If it gives access denied when trying to set affinity, click "show processes from all users" and it should work.


EDIT: The fan does still kick on, however not near as often or as hard.

 

look for the fan of your graphic card, and your pc power supply unit

 

I found out that speedfan is very inaccurate especially on 6core processors. so I found one that is supposed to work on 6core. Heres the new stats without the game running.

AMD FX-6100:

The problem I'm seeing with this program, is that it doesnt tell me whats to hot and whats normal, I noticed after starting the game and watching the temps, the "max" isn't what the max heat it should get to, its the max it has gotten to. and min is the min its gotten to, which explains why tmpin0 under gigabyte has all 3 the same temp, its never changed. I have no knowledge of how hot is to hot, so I couldn't tell anyone if these readings are normal, or bad, or good. However, so far today, the fan hasnt kicked on at all. so I'm guessing its doing better than it was before.
