    Gaining weight.

Start off by upping your calories by about 500 for bulking or removing 500 for cutting. Then increase your workout intensity. For bulking you will need to consume large amounts of protein and carbohydrates. You can calculate your daily protein intake needs at about 1 gram per pound of body weight and for carbohydrates you should consume 3 to 4.5 g of carbohydrates per pound of body weight.

This sounds similar to what my friends personal trainer told me when I asked him. I am actually planning to start doing this, for me my main issue has been keeping on schedule and staying on the diet since I have been crazy busy with work (who would of thought running a business takes a ton of time and effort /s).

Needless to say its time to get on track and start learning to cook so I stay healthier and spend less money eating out.

I feel like I have a part in this conversation. I was very skinny. 6'1' and 135 lbs. And I stuffed my skinny face with so much food. I out-ate everyone. So I'm like "dafuq?"

I figured out my solution. Maybe it applies maybe not.

I was doing 1 hour PE in 12th grade. 3 hours basketball practice. And 1 hour workouts. So around 5 hours of hard exercise a day. I graduated and stopped all that but the gym. I started eating sweet potatoes, oatmeal, oatmeal waffles, chicken, tofu, a fk ton of greens, legumes, etc. A very clean, but heavy diet. Suddenly in 6 months I'm 175. 1 year later I'm 190 and loving it.

Why was I skinny? 1. Because I was running off all my fat daily. Literally. 2. Because I was eating shitty school food and chips n shit.

Why did I gain 55 lbs? 1. Because I stopped running my ass off and hit the gym harder instead. 2. Because I switched my diet to something my body could easily process and convert into fat and muscle.

I used to go to the gym and work so HARD. And I got NO RESULTS. Now that I can put on weight, every day I go to the gym it seems like I get better.

My biggest tip is to FORGET about protein. You're body needs A LOT less protein than is commonly made out. The ONLY way your body can gain weight is by consuming more calories than your body needs to maintain your current weight e.g a calorie surplus. By focusing on protein it's very unlikely you'll reach your calorie surplus and you'll build ZERO muscle. Focus on eating carbs and fats and by the time you've reached your calorie surplus you'll have already hit your protein needs for maximum gains.(0.65g per lb of bodyweight).

Could you suggest maybe a simple workout that can be done at home and what all I would need for it? Thanks

I am 15 years old and I too have the same problem as you do. I am 125 pounds (lb) and I am finding a way to get a bit fatter healthywise. My question to you is how much did you weigh when you were 15 and how tall were you? I heard that people don't grow as tall anymore after 15-16 which is why I am concerned. I am around 5'10 and turning 16 in 6 months.

Eat 3-4 (good) meals a day, every 3 hours. Like a certain user above me say, eat peanut butter and jelly (or honey) sandwhiches.

I was in your position, I was 5'10 @ 133 lb. I already had a body fat of < 10%. My metabolism was my biggest enemy and it took me a hell of a long time to figure it out.

Even now at 25 my metabolism is relentless. I could eat pizza every day and not gain any weight.

The trick for guys like you and me is to get used to eating. The problem is, we don't eat enough. You can throw all the "I do eat lots" however, it isn't enough.

You need to get used to eating every 2 hours. Which is 8 times a day with 8 hours sleep. Now, that isn't eating full meals 8x per day. It's eating something 8x a day. Get about 4-5 decent carbs/protein meals in there. Something like steak, mashed potato, carrots, gravy. Great meal for carbs/protein. Then on the other occasions you need to have like a granola bar or something, cereal even. The priority is to get used to eating. You'll feel like you're force-feeding. However, after a week or two, it won't feel the same. Then once you start finding that you've gaining weight. Then you concentrate on healthier meals for your goal. However, when gaining weight is your priority, eat your favorite meals. Eat cheeseburgers, pizza, parmo whatever you feel like until you start gaining weight from eating 8 meals a day. Once you achieve that, then you can go onto a decent 4k calorie meal plan and the diet side of things will be a breeze, as you'll be used to eating.

As for training, I'd personally do half-hour -> one-hour training 4 days a week and be sure they're workouts that work a lot of your muscles, avoid isolation exercises for now. You need to build mass, not perfect individual muscles.

Now, to get a head-start on your new diet, you're physically not going to be able to eat every two hours and cook every two hours, so go buy like 20 tupperware tubs and say on a sunday, cook 16 of your meals, then when you're running out cook another 16.

This advice is from someone who was in the exact same situation as yourself, and believe me genetics play no part in it, nor does your metabolism. Your body, like mine burns calories like they're nothing. So you need to intake more than what your body is capable of burning to have some left over to use as mass.

I was 6 feet tall when I was 15. The only mass I gained was whatever I physically had to since I grew an inch or two since then. I've always been super skinny.

Super helpful and inspiring tips everyone :)

First you need to research and ask yourself why you want to gain the weight. At the state of anorexia that you are in right now , you probably have a completely fucked up metabolism. Fix ing your metabolic rate would be your first goal. Your second goal is to figure out what type of weight do you want to gain, fat or muscle? Once you've determined that you can look up regiments online from people who have actual degrees in kinesiology or are active advocates for people struggling with similar problems as yours instead of a forums where you are going to get responses from people with little to no knowledge (no offense). Not much help in my response but to be comlletely honest , this is not the best source to find information on your body. Try bodybuilding.Com , it is also a forum where people actively participate and help each other with some respondents being professionals in this field of study.

Before you change your diet and start eating lots of food, get a check up because having a hyperthyroidism can cause failure to gain weight or weight loss. If that is the problem, as soon as you go on medication you'll start gaining weight.

If that isn't the probem, you should talk with a nutritionist because you don't want to develop bad eating habits that will cause you to gain weight when you are older, and you don't want to fill up on empty calories (like candy, refined flour, refined sugar) that don't provide nutrition for your body.
