There's been some J-Mod sweeps at Divination today.
About twenty members have reported a "Bot-Busting - Moderate" temp ban, for 48 hours.
In light of this, I'll finish off the Divination beta behind closed doors.
What kind of things could Jagex have been looking at?
It's most likely related to 'low probability behavior'. If Jagex have good intel, they can go in and monitor for accounts exhibiting similar behaviors. For example... I remember a while ago when the wilderness ditch was introduced, bots were getting stuck at the ditch. That's a very extreme example of low-probability behavior. You may not get banned by automated systems for walking back and forth at the wilderness ditch for 2 hours... But if J-Mods have intel there are bots doing it, they can log in and deal with it quite effectively, via bot busting.
It's safe to assume Jagex have been using the beta, examining it, looking for flaws.
There are a few minor low-probability behaviors in the beta as you'd expect, things like, chopping down trees and not getting rid of the logs from your inventory, not claiming spin tickets - two unfinished areas in the beta at the moment. It may well be that they were looking for accounts exhibiting such behaviors, over a prolonged period of time.
I'd feel safer looking at all grey-areas, and fixing any low-probability behaviors before I put this back in the field.
Having an open beta was a risk, and that's something I will be more aware of in future.
I can't really corroborate, but apparently there are reports of human players caught in the crossfire, and appeals have met with mixed success... but I wouldn't expect an appeal to work out.
My advice to anyone caught, is wait till the ban expires, and until you feel comfortable, before you start botting again.
I will make sure it's safe.
