Can you guys please use it as a means of closing threads not in the appropriate sections, etc, instead of using it as a means of replying to a topic? You know what I mean. Replying a link or two words and then locking on reply to make your dick look big.

Why:
  • Ends all future activity on an interesting thread
  • Doesn't give a chance for others to voice their opinion
  • Pisses people off and causes them to possibly make more threads/drama

Thanks

Not just the thread you locked about 10 minutes ago, but everything in general. Go take a look at the Feedback forums and try to count how many are open as opposed to locked. It's as if the Feedback forum is just the Compliments forum, and threads even get locked to possibly "stop flaming" before it happens, even thought it's not the original poster's fault.

Some other examples that personally bug me:
http://www.sythe.org/feedback/1518388-should-mods-allowed-use-their-status-boost-sales.html
http://www.sythe.org/feedback/1517191-let-me-report.html
http://www.sythe.org/feedback/1517071-re-pokemmo-front-page.html

Big no-no's:
  • Locking because one staff member things their opinion is the law
  • Locking because they think it belongs in a different section, just move it
  • Locking to stop flaming from hapenning before it does
  • Locking a thread because you think it should be a reply: merge it
  • Locking a thread for fun in the spam forum just because you can
  • Locking threads because you think no one should continue talking about it
  • Locking a thread because you think you've answered it

Let a thread die. If it's not interested, resolved, etc, then leave it open for others to reply and it will die on it's own if no one has anything else to say. Adds to the post count, site activity, and makes everyone happy. Obviously, you guys should still lock threads that disobey rules, and lock threads to keep sections such as report a spammer/scammer clean.

I'll address the three examples, plus the thread I locked a while ago.

Dialatic's apology: Every spam forum member was beginning to post "apology accepted", Dialatic did good to post a formal apology , but that doesn't mean everyone can start jumping on the thread and spamming it up with their clever little comments. IF there needs to be further communication on this apology, it would be best carried out over PM or skype. It IS a personal matter.

Let me report: there's no discussion, he can already make a scam report as a guest. This was an update Govind released not even two months ago

Re: Pokemmo: If sythe makes a decision, there's nothing the rest of us can do about it. You guys would have to PM sythe directly about it, or get his attention in the suggestion forum, just as n4n0 said.. I don't know how you see this as "making our dicks look big", I think n4n0 explained it pleasantly and concisely before locking it.

Should mods be allowed to boost sales: I'll give it to you, it could have used some explanation before the lock.

Solution: remove the clever comments, or stop being so butthurt and leave them since people are having an interesting conversation.

Re: Pokemmo: If sythe makes a decision, there's nothing the rest of us can do about it. You guys would have to PM sythe directly about it, or get his attention in the suggestion forum

I'm sure Sythe is capable of looking at the feedback forum. It's not even meant for Sythe only. People aren't allowed to discuss an issue as a community?

Should mods be allowed to boost sales: I'll give it to you, it could have used some explanation before the lock.

I noticed that your arguments are based on your opinion on each matter. While I agree and disagree with the content of the posts, the content wasn't the reason I used them as examples. I also do believe moderators should be able to use it to boost sales, because how are they supposed to avoid it? I also do agree that the apology thread was unnecessary, but again, that does not mean it should be locked. And honestly, I like the PokeMMO, but that's no reason to lock the thread. Allow me to use an example I typed on Skype:

Your argument is analogous to "old people have nothing left to do in life and they're in a lot of pain, so let's euthanize them." Mine is "let them live until they naturally die."

(edit) I've already lost interest in this. Now I'll let it die, or maybe a moderator will close it first before anyone else gets to say anything.

I'm not butthurt, why would I be? Dialatic's situation didn't affect me at all.

It still stands that the public apology is all good and well, but the conversation was quickly turning to spam and trololing. It serves no purpose for these guys to gush out their oh-so-heart-felt feelings to the public, we don't care about their relationship.

Why would sythe pay attention to the crying of users who dislike every decision he makes? He's been exceptionally active in the suggestion forum lately, and it's obviously because he respondes better when a problem is present AS WELL AS a solution, rather than a bunch of malcontents screaming "WE HATE THIS, Y U DO THIS 2 US, HUEEEEEEEEEEEE"

Like I said, I'll give it to you, "Should mods be allowed to boost sales" wasn't handled correctly. I don't see how I'm being unduly opinionated when I disagree with your examples I see as fair, and agree with your examples which I see as unfair... I'm not commenting on the nature of the material, but the nature of how the material SHOULD be handled

My thread really wouldn't have made sense as a suggestion, which is why I didn't bother making one. I was wondering more why all the games which had several more posts and topics were crammed in as subsections and pokemon was put at priority over all of those games. I could have made a suggestion to scrap the other games section but we all know how badly that would have went. Also not really sure why Dial's thread was locked it was a good feedback and shouldn't have been locked.

[*]Locking to stop flaming from hapenning before it does
[*]Locking a thread for fun in the spam forum just because you can

While i agree with the majority of your reasoning (not necessarily the specific examples given) these two stand out as the most ridiculous.

The spam forum is plagued with mods locking shit needlessly (often times for "fun" meaning no reason at all) not so much in past week but itll happen again.

Also if flaming hasnt occurred yet and they lock a thread they are basically implying they have ESP and their spidey sense tingled and closed thread without sound reasoning.

If a mod feels flaming is going to happen they should let a kid rage make a post and infract him for it. THEN lock to prevent further flaming. Preemptive strikes are jumping the gun, you can never be sure which way a threads going to go before it goes there.

Doesn't give a chance for others to voice their opinion

This as well, mods often say what they thing about the idea/feedback and then lock. If it isnt a definitive thing like something on the DNS list i feel it should be left open a while, its counterproductive to have a feedback and or suggestion forum when a mod can just lock because he disagrees. This is a community, and things should be left open to discussion, not closed based on one persons opinion on the matter (unless that person is sythe, this is HIS site afterall).

I must agree that it's frustrating. Most notably in Laptop's thread ( http://www.sythe.org/feedback/1523171-porn-refferal-links-accepted-now.html )

I don't think a few members are "everyone". I see that Grave went off topic in Laptop's thread (maybe he could be infracted) but it's not his discussion. Moderators moderate threads; they shouldn't necessarily close them.

From my experience on staff, I genuinely think staff gets frustrated themselves and locks the thread as a way out. They think they're right (and they may be) because they have a different perspective. However, this isn't an excuse to lock almost all feedback threads. It's better to let members talk, offer your perspective if possible, and then let it grow or die naturally. That's how it should be on a forum (look up the definition >.< ).

I admit wanting (and in some cases) locking threads because I considered the thread creators idiots and/or wrong. I think that's still happening throughout the staff team in general. It's something the team needs to work on to correct.

This thread is why i sought out this topic. Another premature closing by corey, if people are raging and flaming they should be infracted dont take the easy way out and close the thread before more people can get in on the discussion. That thread was a circle jerk between 3 or so people with no other input.

As it has been said before this is the feedback forum, stop closing shit.

With Nick on this one, why have a feedback forum if you're not going to let us voice our opinions?

I agree with this. I've been seeing a lot of locks, but none of them have been my own threads so I haven't been affected by this much. Although, while I'm not going to address this as a growing problem, if every time a mod locked a thread in Suggestions it would add +1 to their lifespan, our moderators would be immortal by Tuesday.

I'm really waiting for a mod to lock this thread, just for shits n giggles.

The threads that get resolved only apply to a few sections, but RmwRs2's replies in the support section have been that in-depth, that there has been no problem with the few he has locked, as they have been answered fully. IDK how a feedback thread can be locked really, as others may want to add to the discussion.

Completely agree with this. For some staff it's rediculus. I've noticed a couple staff members on our team (especially some ex/demoted mods) who seem to lock everything they even slightly disagree with. Personally, I've never locked a thread unless it was obviously breaking rules or was harmful. The way I see the forum is that if it shouldn't be there and it is not harmful it will die out. Most of the time if its not harmful there should be no reason to lock the thread.

Probably you can't, but the tag -syph is making me guess you're Sypherz alternate mobile use account, but I thought that you'd have an official one like yaroow etc.
