There's a malware going around that detects when you copy a bitcoin address, then it switches it out to its own when you paste it.

I stumbled upon it on reddit

panic: just got 13 BTC scammed but transaction still unconfirmed need to confirm my transaction with same inputs • r/Bitcoin

I thought nothing much of it as it could have been an exaggerated claim. However I just found out someone I know got hit by something very similar, just a different address. Upon googling the address, which contains almost $200k in bitcoin all received, it brought me to this site of someone who noticed it not too long ago.

Copy-Paste Virus For Bitcoin Users -- Beware!!! - bitcointalk.org site

I told the guy to copy and paste my address, and he said all that gets pasted is that one included in bitcointalk.

Holy fuck that's brutal, what a clever idea as well. Some people are so sneaky.

I'll double and triple check next time I go to paste an address in for sure, thank you for the heads up.

Always verify the end part of the address since that is hard to spoof.

Yeah, I always just check first few and the end. Although their goal isn't to create a similar address as yours, at least not yet. Also wouldn't be viable for them to do that for each victim.

Thanks for the warning. I normally check the address pretty good but not always. Will make extra sure the right address is put in before sending.

Thanks for sharing. This is scary stuff. Has anyone on Sythe gotten scammed by this?

Yes he did, he couldn't stop the blocks from being mined. Not sure how that works, if possible.

The person I know might be on Sythe, he frequently sells gold to Sythe users. He gave the wrong address again the 2nd time he sold but realized it was the wrong one just in time. He was wondering why the first payment from almost 24 hours, prior to selling again, never even showed up. It all made sense the 2nd time, luckily it was caught in time.
