I say yes, how can you believe that nothing made nothing. The human body is made perfectly to fit our environments, the human organs are placed perfectly otherwise they wouldn't be able to function.

Natural selection also shows how our imperfect bodies fit our environments fairly well. Evolution is what created us. That is a fact. Nothing also never came from nothing. Nothing didn't make anything. There are many theories that attempt to explain the beginnings of our universe but most are most likely flawed in some way or another. Simply because we do not know how something happened does not mean god did it or that we will never know. Have some faith and stop believing in magic just because science hasn't shown you the true answer yet.

I feel like God isn't an actual being, but more of a symbol for things that us humans don't understand. As history went on religions were ruled out because the things the people didn't understand were solved and their religions were ruled ridiculous so maybe some time in the future the God we talk about today (I guess the Christian god is what you're talking about) will one day be ruled stupid. I haven't studied the bible or anything so my comments may contradict themselves, but I don't understand who made God.

(I voted No obviously)

Yes, I think god does exist, the reason why I believe so is I can't imagine how the whole world was created, how humans, animals were made because I don't believe in the scientific stuff.

oh, in that case float away because gravity doesn't exist in your mind.

If you have the brains to actually look at nature around you and to observe it through science or any means for that matter then your opinion would change.

your logic refutes itself.

"i dont know" or being uneducated doesn't equal god existing.

Well god is livin in every one of us,as we swear like oh my god, that proves he actually exists somehow.

No it doesn't.

You are simply stupid, there is no other way to put it.

Nothing makes something, read my posts earlier in this thread. Gravity is a CONSTANT AS WELL AS SPACE AND TIME, and the effects of gravity on "nothing" results in anti-gravity which produces matter. Something DID come from nothing, matter+anti matter = nothing, we have not yet observed the reverse process which matter and anti-matter combine and create nothing again.

The human body is made to fit our environment due to natural selection.
Organs are NOT placed perfectly AT ALL. Efficiency in our organs is rare and there are plenty of examples of veins going in very strange routes which imply natural selection. Also, please explain wisdom teeth, tail bones, and finally the APPENDIX.

before you make an argument try to patch up the OBVIOUS holes in the logic.

In my opinion:

God doesn't exist, plain and simple.

However, my reasoning as to how the universe came into existence is also VERY plain and simple: It didn't. I think there WASN'T a beginning, and that we just define beginning and other such ideas/parameters to give ourselves comfort in thought, as I believe others do with God.

There are simply too many problems with the idea of "God". I would try to argue and explain why this is the case, but I'm sure all of you atheists and even most of the religious people are QUITE familiar with the reasoning.

However, I will add and contribute this: Why argue a topic such as "God" using logic? Everything disproving it in this article is purely logical and rationally based. The very idea behind god is "faith", and "faith" is quite simply DEFINED as: "belief that is not based on proof".

I'm glad a lot of us have faith in something bigger than ourselves, however, if this "faith" is such, you simply can't explain it with logic or rationale. Now, I impose the question on YOU, religious people, how do you maintain faith with so many things that ARE based on proof or logic happening around you? I, personally, have never heard of anything happen that isn't logical, much less experiencing anything of the sort, SO why is that the case for you?

God is the energy throughout the universe :)

Funny how if you asked whether God existed a century ago everyone would probably say yes but as time passes and people get smarter the bias will shift more towards atheism/agnosticism.
I also noticed this trend this from primary school, to secondary school, to college and finally university too.

I'm somewhat of an agnostic person and atheist at the same time. I do not believe that God exists but I believe that you cannot prove whether he exists or not. Because of this I simply disregard that he exists.

I also think the argument about the existence of God is also mostly due to people defining God differently thus it is important to establish who God is before engaging in a debate.
Some imagine Him as the one depicted in the Bible i.e: some sort of super human who invented the world.
Some others think that he's some sort of metaphysical being etc...
For the most part, the believers that I know off believe in the former which is a God which I definitely don't believe in for MANY reasons/common sense.

Personally, if I don't understand something I don't try to explain it through God as was incorrectly done a number of time. I also think that its in out nature to believe in leaders/some sort of person whose guiding us since we're all at the end of the day collaborative beings.

Thats because you have a poor understanding about how life formed and how it has evolved during millions of years through natural selection as well as genetic drift.
If you don't understand something you first and foremost look for an answer and not conclude things.

First of all complex animals such as humans didn't come to exist out of nothing but evolved from something which is less complex and that less complex organism evolved from something else which in turn also came from something less complex and so on...
I cannot really explain 7 years of biology and chemistry lectures in just a paragraph but the evolution of complexity isn't so astounding to people who are familiar in Biology (well actually it is astounding but nevertheless reasonable thus there's no reason to resort to God).

You need to stop reading all those chemistry/biology books lol...it cant explain
religion and if it does you probably gonna answer back with another chemistry/bioligy story

Religion != belief in god and disbelief in god != irreligious.

I can tell my your grammar and spelling that you also don't believe in reading English books. This statement is just plain stupid. If a god exists he didn't give you a brain to do nothing with, unless you believe that a god created mindless automatons to just roam around. Knowledge, intellect, learning are all important for the advancement of society and ignoring natural laws is seriously stupid.

Edit: Something I just learned was that famed philosopher and mathematician Kurt Godel made an ontological argument using Modal Logic.

I'm a born and raised muslim.

I am now on the fence, and have been for nearly 2 years.

By on the fence, I mean that I believe there is an all powerful being up there, but I'm no longer certain any of the available religions give it the grandeur it deserves.

The human body is "perfectly fit" to our environments because we built them for one, for two it is "perfectly fit" because of evolution. I use quotations because it is not perfectly fit period. We have adapted the ability to survive based on our environment not creation, why would there be so many species of homo sapien originally if we were "perfectly" fit.

Such an uninformed opinion is disgusting at best.

All that suffering is mankind's fault

Another uninformed opinion, its not like species went extinct long before man came along right? I mean obviously we ran the dinosaurs out of the planet through planned orbital bombardments right? No this is an utter joke and fundamentally expresses my disgust with religion because that one statement is the epitome of every religion, that things done in the past you had no influence over are your fault and you need to repent.

Yes GOD is real...so is jesus christ maybe not in human body but spiritually they are ...

I don't think we were ever talking about if God OR Jesus Christ existed in the human body, it's a discussion if God exists at all. Using the word spiritually doesn't makes any sense to me. What do you mean by "spiritually"?

the human organs are placed perfectly
The human organs aren't placed perfectly. An omnipotent god wouldn't create many species with the same flaws:
There's a nerve called the Recurrent laryngeal nerve which is a branch of the vagus nerve. Vagus nerve has multiple branches, two of which go to the heart and two to both sides of the larynx. On both sides of the neck, one of the branches of the recurrent laryngeal nerve go straight to the larynx, but the other branches go through the weirdest loop: they dive into the chest, goes around one of the main arteries in the heart and after that goes back up the neck into the larynx. pardon me if i've got some terminology wrong, i'm not really well-versed with my human biology vocabulary in English

That's just stupid. If a god decided to create a man, he wouldn't make such a silly, pointless mistake. This same egregiously long nerve is also found in giraffes, whose nerve grows to over four meters long. Evolution, on the other hand, offers a valid explanation of this phenomenon (which, when explained properly takes up a few pages so I do not want to translate/abridge it).

There's a similar thing with male vas deferens:
PJobbO.png

The vas deferens loops over the ureter, which is another thing a god would have no reason to do (unless he was very inept), but evolution also explains this.

Human eye (and mammal eyes in general) also have things that any designer would spot and change while still in the drawing board. The parts connecting photoreceptor cells to the brain are on the surface of the retina, which means that the light has to pass through them in order to be seen (as the cells are basically pointing to the wrong direction - inside the head). It's not very wise, and it gets worse. Since the nerves are on the retina, when they get together to form the optic nerve to get the signal into the brain, a blind spot is formed.

These all are mistakes in the sense that an intelligent designer wouldn't be very intelligent if he were to design them. Evolution has valid, accepted explanations for all of these - and more, but I don't really feel like typing up all that I can think of. Also, this thread is not for evolution so that's another reason why I'm not bothering to explain it. Read a book.
ps:it's also the source
pps: i've got the finnish version so excuse my shoddy translations
