    Hello everyone :)
I'm currently using codecademy.com to learn HTML and CSS and personally I think its an awesome site. It is very interactive and also it very supportive. In addition, they have lots of other courses such as javascript in case your interested in that.
Do you guys know of any other websites like codeacademy that you recommend I should try out?

I've taken every code academy course that's offered.

You don't come out of it learning very much, but its a simple way to dip your feet in and see if you like learning about programming in general. If you do there are plenty of other resources to expand from the stuff code academy offers.

Do you learn enough to program anything practical on your own from the courses, or are they just the basics?

You won't learn to "program" anything practical with HTML/CSS on their own. Get a basic understanding of both, then learn a backend programming language (and) or framework. After creating an app, you'll have enough knowledge to determine whether you want to be a frontend or backend guy (or ofc jack of all trades, master of none). From that point, the world is your oyster.

Your best bet for HTML/CSS is just using your standard browsers..? There was an open-source editor that automatically updated the html each time the file was changed. So you don't have to refresh constantly. However, I don't remember the name for it now. Then when you move onto back-end languages, WAMP is a good tool for PHP.

OT, I've never used it personally. I may check it out.

Recently finished most of the web dev courses and have to say I learnt quite a lot.
But I also used Lynda and teamtreehouse.

It's a good way to learn when you haven't gone to school for it.

    I personally used tuts+ for front-end development HTML5/CSS3 etc.

Well, I learn coding from homeandlearn website, They have a very basic tutorials for beginners and maybe helpful for you.

I like basic type tutorials since I am still beginner and don't want to learn big tutorials on my PC. Instead I prefer to take a printout of tutorial and learn it and it help my eyes.

We had a CodeAcademy subscription at work and when we had work experience kids in I'd show them some stuff, make them sit on CA for a bit and make them build me something by the end of the day.

If you're interested in learning PHP, there's a great framework called Laravel, their documentation is great and I'd recommend Laracasts as a video learning source

I've used codecademy off and on, It really is a great site and a better teacher than any of the books I read on the subject, getting straight to the example showing you what needs done and how to do it in each language.

Only other similar learning site I've used was khanacademy
