No, because they can believe what they like as they choose their own path in life, and it's not my place to influence them or judge them based on beliefs.

So, are you are you intellectually condescending to theists? I'm not.

Edit: This is purely for curiosity reasons.

Editar el número dos: This thread is aimed mostly at Atheists.

Yes, it's the year 2011. If you believe in a deity that's supposed to have a physical form, or you believe in an 'afterlife' after copious amounts of scientific contradiction you're clearly feeble. I have 0 respect for theists.

I'm absolutely intellectually condescending to theists. As far as I'm concerned, if you follow a religion it means one of these

1) You're unintelligent
2) You don't evaluate what you believe/spend your time on
3) You follow a religion for social reasons

In any of these cases, I'm looking down on you intellectually.

1)
If your cause for saying religious people are unintelligent simply resides in the fact they believe in something with no evidence, then so are scientists.

Science is based on a set of beliefs that the Laws of Physics are universal.
They do not work in a black hole, and often bring up puzzling results.
2)
Opinion, If I say your an idiot, doesn't make you an idiot.
3)
Opinion, however:
How do you know your mother is your mother when your young?
Or your father your father? You cannot prove it w/o tests.
Is it because you follow it based on social reasons? The fact that other people believe she/he is your parent?

For the record, I'm not religious.

On a subconscious level, I think I do. I've known plenty of people that were very intelligent but also believed in God, and even though I am good friends with some and respect them plenty, I can't help but to somehow see their theism as a flaw in their character. I just fail to understand how someone in this day and age can still hold strong convictions about something with absolutely no scientific basis whatsoever.

Give me any evidence that the Laws of Physics are universal.
Give me any evidence proving that God is real.

You cannot for either, therefore they are based upon a set of beliefs.

Your the retard.

2) If you don't look down on people that never evaluate their life and beliefs, that's you. Intelligent people should evaluate their life.
And, as I recall this thread was about opinions.
3) No I believe it because of resemblances, similarities in behavior, my birth certificate. In addition, who my parents are/could be has no effect on my life.

1) Laws of Physics don't apply in Black Holes, they're not universal.

2) You assume that they don't evaluate their life and beliefs.

3) You assume that they follow religions because of social reasons.
As for the 3rd one, I didn't give the best example, even still:

Resemblances mean nothing, I can have a black father yet still be white.
Similarities in behavior, My parents could be alcoholics when I'm not.
Birth Certificate, Fair point, however I don't know what all the contents of which that are on the birth certificate.
No effect on your life? It does for a lot of people. However believing in a religion whether it be true/false has no effect on your life either. You simply believe in the religion. You shouldn't look down on people for what they believe in.

You probably could look down on them for, believing religion is 100% fact end of story, or disregarding everything else. However for simply holding a belief? I think it takes it a little bit to far.

1) Not only are you wrong, but what the fuck are you trying to prove? Science isn't some set of concrete laws to be grasped. It's our way of explaining phenomena and predicting phenomena for our gain. Also, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_mechanics
2) I hold it to be evident to any intelligent person that believing in a religion is irrational and a waste of time and resources.
3) Once again I have no idea what you're trying to prove. By "social" in my first post I meant like holding a belief for fear of what others may think of atheistic beliefs.

And, you can't "just" hold a belief. If you just "kinda" or believe it only a bit that's even worse. Christianity constitutes church attendance and whatnot, right? Be strong about your views, or be a self-doubting idiot that I look down upon.

Your saying Black Holes do not defy the laws of physics?

All religion is, is faith, belief.
If your wife has life threatening cancer, and someone says, "just keep the faith." Would you say no, believing in something is irrational and a waste of my time and resources? All religion is, is a belief in something.

So by social you meant simply believing in something(religion) because your scared what others may think? Then yes I agree.

What I'm trying to say is that, science is not 100% rock solid, it has its MANY flaws. This is evident with the theories piling on top of each other, disproving certain elements of each other. But then again, so does religion.

You realize a black hole, the example you keep bringing up, is an extreme... yes? Science relative to US is concrete; physics and relativity and every other scientific law is concrete to US. We are on EARTH, not a black hole. Other circumstances are irrelevant. YOU cannot physically defy physics, it's scientific law.

So you agree that The Laws of Physics are not universal.

Put it into perspective, Black Holes take up more space in our universe than our GALAXY.
So maybe Earth is the extremity?

Believing in a religion is NO DIFFERENT from believing in extraterrestrial life.

Are you a retard? Everything EXCEPT Earth is irrelevant. These are the laws that we follow and according to us are physically unbreakable. They are LAW, they are set in stone, you can not break them. We aren't the exception if science is studied and tested ON EARTH, you jackass.

How is it to be so narrow minded that you cave in on yourself?

You are exceptionally ignorant. Science doesn't just study things on Earth, it studies things in space. It uses the same formulas on Earth and believes that they can apply it to places billions of light years away.

However the phenomena we see is sometimes indescribable and not consistent with the formula we use.

Earth makes up 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of the space occupied in our Galaxy.

I am very sorry for not being able to be so narrow minded, ignorant and stupid as you are.

There is so much doubt among scientists, that obviously the Laws of Physics aren't as rock solid as you make them out to be.

If you live in America, then you should sue the American Government. Because they have a No child left behind Act, and you've clearly been left behind.

Many famous scientists believe there is extraterrestrial life, would you look down on them simply for their belief?

You can't use that... these scientists use empirical evidence to back their beliefs. Theists don't.

i am a thiest of a sort, tho i do believe a god exist.

can i be thiest yet believe god exists?

Way to bring up your post count. Look up the definition, and spelling, of theist. I'm reporting you for spamming.
