Science is based on a set of beliefs that the Laws of Physics are universal.
They do not work in a black hole, and often bring up puzzling results.

For the record, I'm not religious.

 

On a subconscious level, I think I do. I've known plenty of people that were very intelligent but also believed in God, and even though I am good friends with some and respect them plenty, I can't help but to somehow see their theism as a flaw in their character. I just fail to understand how someone in this day and age can still hold strong convictions about something with absolutely no scientific basis whatsoever.

Clearly, just saying. There's 2 stickies covering threads about theism/god and 'opinionated' posts. This board is for fact, not fiction.

 

1) Laws of Physics don't apply in Black Holes, they're not universal.

2) You assume that they don't evaluate their life and beliefs.

As for the 3rd one, I didn't give the best example, even still:

Resemblances mean nothing, I can have a black father yet still be white.
Similarities in behavior, My parents could be alcoholics when I'm not.

No effect on your life? It does for a lot of people. However believing in a religion whether it be true/false has no effect on your life either. You simply believe in the religion. You shouldn't look down on people for what they believe in.

You probably could look down on them for, believing religion is 100% fact end of story, or disregarding everything else. However for simply holding a belief? I think it takes it a little bit to far.

All religion is, is faith, belief.
If your wife has life threatening cancer, and someone says, "just keep the faith." Would you say no, believing in something is irrational and a waste of my time and resources? All religion is, is a belief in something.

What I'm trying to say is that, science is not 100% rock solid, it has its MANY flaws. This is evident with the theories piling on top of each other, disproving certain elements of each other. But then again, so does religion.

 

You realize a black hole, the example you keep bringing up, is an extreme... yes? Science relative to US is concrete; physics and relativity and every other scientific law is concrete to US. We are on EARTH, not a black hole. Other circumstances are irrelevant. YOU cannot physically defy physics, it's scientific law.

Put it into perspective, Black Holes take up more space in our universe than our GALAXY.
