That's rather a big step for them, normally they're shit at making decisions and take forever to do one with lots of confirmation but they've just randomly come out with this and they didn't think of the reputation they're getting for doing this..

How can they be going bankrupt. look at how many players are on Runescape at all the time, consider how many memberships are bought each day. People make multiple accounts for selling Gold and stuff. All the website hits and advertisements, they can't be going bust.

OT: I doubt they would screw themselves over like this, once people find out they're not gonna unban the accounts no ones gonna pay.

 

You're sent a message to your accounts 'message centre' giving you the opportunity to be unbanned for money. If you pay, you're an idiot TBH.

If they don't unban the accounts it would be considered stealing, and whats the point of unbannining the the account if they clearly say they will remove any gains or advantages reached by macroing. Jagex could probably be going under bankrupcy, making their bot detection system better, keeping the servers online, combating RWT, or making their new game.

 

It's not stealing when in the terms it says "You can pay us to consider unbanning you".
Jagex aren't stupid, they know what's legal and what's not.

Jagex don't have the world by the balls, we still control these guys and putting on a .1% unbanning rate for PAYERS would ruin any potential for profit in this new endeavor of theirs. Reminds me of the people that think jagex were just trying to break a record with the W/FT vote and didn't intend on bringing any of it back. Reminds me of the people that thought prices for GP ($$$) would go up.

Are Jagex going under? Hell no, not within the next couple years... MMG already said in an interview that they're looking at at least 10+ years more with RS, and while it's optimistic it's not exactly naive.

Do ANY of you check out other MMOs? That still have an active development team? That get only 1/10 the subscribers Jagex has? WHY THE FUCK would Jagex throw away a game that is getting upwards 900k+ subs? That's top 3 in the market?

And don't give me that stellar dawn bullshit, it's an unproven MMO and only a fool would abandon 900k+ subs for something like it.

Look at their updates people, you see that Gnome graphical re-work? Now if a company was "going under" why would they be bothering to update models? That's a lot of work for little gain the short term.

 

^I can confirm. I logged onto one of my accounts banned back in 2009 for macroing major and there was no mention of reinstatement anywhere, even in the message center.
