Do lots of people use proxy servers?

Hey, so I recently found out how to find a person's IP address by any email they send me.

I've been telling people i'm selling to to email me to prove they own their paypal account. What they don't know is that I check their IP and ask them where they live, most of the time they say a country different then their IP.

So obviously these people are using a proxy server, whether or not this is suspicious and makes the person dangerous to trade with (because of chargebacks) I don't know. So basically, do a lot of legitimate people use proxy servers or are the majority of them scammers trying to chargeback?

Most of the big gold sellers uses proxy to avoid RWT suspicion from Jagex. If that person is a new comer etc and they uses proxy, do be careful as they may have stolen, hacked the paypal account.

 

I read somewhere on here that most email providers process the emails through their servers, so the IP that you're getting would not be always theirs, I can be wrong though, cant remember exactly what thread I read it on.

 

So it seems like checking peoples' IP is a bit of a waste of time?

 

How do you know your method actually results in their IP address?

 

In all seriousness, Proxy servers have gotten big recently so I think you should use a different method to verify information like that.

At the moment, I don't use one but if I start dealing with virtual items again I probably will have one. People don't always use them maliciously ya'know.
