[DENIED] Disable post modifications for non-donators

As you all know the 07/RS3 WTB/WTS sections are moderated due to the amount of goldsite imposters (s/o Floris). Right now they mostly post from a proxy claiming they buy/sell gold to later on edit the post and change to an imposter site. My suggestion here is to grant donators only the possibility to edit their posts. Titles could still be changed by them and they can still request changes to their posts using the report button.

Thoughts? And don't come up with "free market" excuses because the market will just as free as always.

 

I’m not sure how large an issue this currently is but it’ll inconvenience regular non-donor gold sellers. Will they be infracted for bumping and having inaccurate prices on their thread?

 

No that'll totally be irrelevant to this.

 

My thread says 0.75 a mill I’ve reported the thread to reflect the new price. In that time it takes for a mod to change the price I’m open to a false advertising report?

 

Support as this would reduce scams and i doubt it would be much more work for mods than it is catching all these imposters anyway

 

No because you're a donator and therefore are still able to edit the post.

 

I guess I should have made it clearer but I’m talking from a non-donors perspective.
Edit: I’m not entirely sure how the false advertising system works, some clarification could help steer my position on this.

 

If I'm not mistaken the false advertising rule only applies to goldsites, not individuals selling gold themselves. I might be wrong though.

 

Not sure based on the following:

- Would mods be obligated to make changes to topics if the user requests. This would probably result in hundreds of users requesting edits to their topics. There's always those people who don't proof read and may request another edit 5 minutes later too, and then complain when a mod doesn't edit their topic in 3.4745 seconds.

- What happens if a user posts a topic, finishes a trade, and then wishes to trade again. Would they have to make a fresh topic and risk having 2 topics bumped in a section until one is archived/closed?

- Wouldn't it be easier to implement a "verified real site" rank/mini/title and include in the guideline stickies that new users should check carefully and be cautious if trading with a user who hasn't "verified" their site?

 

Maybe we can use wortel's suggestion but remove edit permissions for users with a TWC? Aiming for fake gold shops, they're already granted with a TWC when they create a thread (s/o wortel) for posting from a proxy so they wouldnt be able to edit their thread while normal new users would still be able to

It would only affect users with a TWC, not ppl who may or may not have donated, adding a requirement related to how long someone has been a member of sythe isnt useful as they can just idle accounts before posting

 

Another thought:

On pbot for ToS, mods used to edit the first reply post on a topic to their own and "verify" the ToS.

Couldn't the same methodology be used for site topics. A mod replaces the first reply post with words along the line as "This site has been verified to be real" ?

 

A nice solution to this would be mod has to approve the changing of threads, at least in said sections. I agree that someone shouldn't have to pay to change the post and perhaps this is doable?

 

I like the idea. I don't like how it'll affect legitimate users. It can be seen as a nice donor incentive sure, but the flip side to it is, it can also be viewed as "why should i pay for a basic site function that other websites provide for free?" sort of thing.

+1 to both the non-donor and twc restrictions. If you’re just dumping all the gold you won staking it wouldn’t stop you from doing anything. If you’re running a gold shop then you should be able to cough up $5, Sythe needs money anyways. TWC will discourage people from being stupid and add some drawback to twc that you really don’t want.
