[Denied] update forums?

i am suggesting that we update the forums by adding a homepage. this homepage could include sythe.org news, important information for users using the site, gaming news, and whatever else.

this would give the site a nice touch and make it more of just a basic forum. maybe a side bar on the left hand side could be added as well that would have the home button, forums button, and a help button that could include the rules, how to report a scammer, about sythe, first steps when trading, etc.

 

You do realize that this website is mainly a black market, not a news outlet?

Also, most of the things you're mentioning (help, how to report a scammer) have been organized and thought through already. No need to change that rearrangement from vertical to horizontal

 

Of course. I'm not saying that's what has to be there, I am just suggesting a home page. Would be a nice change and Sythe will have a bit more of a modern look rather than just a forum.

Having a info bar on the left would be great too. The bar would be there even while you're on the forums so you'll always have that important information with you like how to report a scammer or common scam methods or whatever.

It will look something like this.

You can't tell me something like this wouldn't be useful for new users.

 

Doing this, would mean that people who'd have to jump to the markets or a forum-specific section would have to click once extra. These new sections you're suggesting aren't going to be clicked as often as the market-specific sections, so it's better to have them on the front page. No support.

 

A few thoughts:

1) I don't see how this suggestion would ultimately bring any significant positive change to the forums. It's just a different interface / way of presenting the same information that is already available.
2) Having a homepage seems worthless to me - as @President mentioned, its just an extra step.
3) I'm not a xenforo guru, but I'm not even sure you can add an "info bar?"
4) Even if you could and there was clearly defined value in doing so, you're wasting your time trying to get Richard to add that feature. Just me being honest.

 

Most Sythe users like Sythe as is, potentially they've also gained a skeptical sight on improvements on the website because they know their suggestions is a waste of time and efforts, as either staff or the veteran users will throw shit over you. I've accepted the fact that we're going to have to take Sythe as we have it, I do not see Sythe himself either making efforts to modernize the website, nor do I think he'll ever hand out the actual lead of the website to someone else despite the better good of the site. There's a shitload you can get done should there be any will to change things, but if there's no will from higher up, it's basically pointless to suggest anything that can better the site. That is, if it requires some adjustments to the website.
