[Denied] Section for Auctions?

Couldn't find anything related to this, would be a good way to get stuff sold for the highest bid, just a thought.

 

How'd you enforce sales tho?

Assume: someone "auctions" a max main
Max bid ends at 10$
Seller decides not to sell for that

Is it a scam?

Scenario 2:
Sellers friend keeps over bidding
Wins the auction
Winner pulls back, having inflated price highly
Runner-up should pay way overpriced due to friend outbidding ?

 

Agreed. It is vulnerable for manipulation.

A good way to mitigate this would be conduct auctions with a sealed bidding approach (everyone submits sealed bids and no one will know the bid of others).

However, given that Sythe forums is public, I do not see how this can be conducted in that manner.

 

if done "invisibly" a user can post then delete the faster he can I suppose? and at the end of the date, the Owner of the Auction can ask a mod to post the highest offer?

Also - if email notifications are enabled you can read deleted posts in your email

& - unnecessary busywork for mod team

 

Removes the whole point of an auction for the seller imo. U want to have 2 or more people bid against eachother to raise the prize. That wont happen then.

 

Having a "reserve" system in place would alleviate the issue surrounding scenario #1. You could also create rules that would prevent issue #2 (IE - only the winning bid is binding).


With that said, I'm not sure that an auction section is worth the time or effort. Buyers are free to make offers below the asking price on accounts that are for sale on Sythe.

This. I think it’s mostly a postfarming charade and the only reason it’s going well is because the auctioneer is a staff member. This opens up for a whole new market I don’t think Sythe is ready for.

 

Exactly. With most people being auto bumpers (why I haven't gone to 300 yet) and the odd auction on mini ranks, it just has no real appeal

 

Hire more staff!

More biz = more staff = more profit, no?

 

If staff found a way to moderate this, this would be super super addition to the forums.
