[DENIED] Save deleted messages on Discord

This suggestion is kinda funny but a pain in the ass for people who have been doxing people lately on Discord. On my own community I'm using Dyno which works okay-ish but if I'm not mistaken it only knows when a message was deleted, not what the message contained. Could be wrong in my permissions though. I'm suggesting either a new bot that does save this or an addition to @Shin his bot - this way we can get done with the issue where the immature people keep deleting their images or whatever of people.

 

If there is a bot out there (or Shinbot) that can implement this feature, I think we should 110% do it.

It's currently almost impossible to gather legitimate screenshots if people are quick enough - therefore making it a pain for cases/disputes unless there are witnesses.

 

Dyno usually does a good job of detecting deleted messages, but sometimes it does just say there is a deleted message. I'm not sure why it does that, but it may be more useful than not having it implemented.

Edit: Something like this cog may be useful for Shinbot.

 

I'd support this if it everyone on the discord could use it and not just staff.

It'd ruin the paste and delete memes or the edit memes but

What do you mean by using it?

 

Regular users shouldn't be able to see chat logs, it's something that should be reserved for mods+. It would kind of defeat the purpose of deleting messages otherwise lol

 

Having access to view the deleted posts.

So everyone is allowed to view the deleted posts.

This would be limited to the sections that normal members can see so no staff lounge or upper staff lounge, etc.

 

You're aware we're speaking about Discord here, right? There's no such thing as "USL" and "SL" in Discord.

 

I think it's hypocritical to bleat on encouraging people to always PM and then implement something like this that is rendered useless if you PM properly

This would be helpful in many circumstances. I think it is a great idea and needs to be implemented as soon as possible.

 

If this was done then make deleted posts accessible to staff only in Discord, if someone wants to delete their message in Discord then they should be able to do so. Not everyone is doxxing.

 

I think he means the problem is, people post irl photos of others then delete it quickly. This makes it tricky when "punishing" these individuals because the evidence is almost instantly gone.

I support, it will stop people from doing it and have no effect on people who don't post that stuff.

 

I don't think it should be accessible for everyone. If someone is doxing another user then quickly deletes it everyone would still be able to see the info if they could access deleted messages. I'd say make it so only the admins could see deleted messages that way if there ever was a report a sectional/global could request an admin to check for the deleted messages.

 

If someone was doxxing I agree they're messages should become restricted to only staff.

But if someone was doxxing you and you weren't able to take a screenshot or use the bot to take a screenshot, it might take a while to get a staff member to go through their entire logs.

 

This suggestion is to improve the personal safety of each user, therefore I don't like the idea that 'everyone' should have access to the deleted messages as that can cause significant problems as you can imagine.

How or what would detect the difference between knowing if it was you who got doxed or someone else, from a neutral or unbias perspective, The easy and straightforward solution should be that staff members can only see all the deleted messages and censor it (in order to protect users personal safety) if someone requests what that information is.

 

If this isn't going to be something that the community uses or that affects the greater community why is it a suggestion here rather than in the staff lounge?

Staff will either implement it with or without the consent the average player.

Seems like a waste of a suggestion.

 

Well, this is a problem that is affecting the members of the community, therefore a mod is asking the broader audience if the problem is big enough that a permanent solution is needed (Which will require effort and time). Therefore they are determining if the community wants these changes so they can satisfy the userbase desires.

 

This suggestion has been denied.

Regardless, of seeing deleted messages or not the person who deletes them, you usually can piece together whether or not they are a scammer judging by the chat logs.
