Simple Suggestion:
Extend the moderated status to the RuneScape Account Sales/ Max Main Rentals section. Meaning it would require a Market/Global/Admin moderator to approve it.

Reasoning:
I will preface this by stating this is a fairly aggressive suggestion.

To start off, the main goal of this is to make it much more difficult for someone ban evading to start up. Account sales are unique, where the scam doesn't necesarily happen during the initial trade. A lot of users wait for the victim to place wealth and items on the account to recover it, which means they can remain dormant for months. Obviously, even with this suggestion that can happen no matter what but its still worth mentioning.

Having these two sections moderated means users on Mobile/VPN's won't have a chance to post their threads. A mod will go over the thread to see if it includes all the requirements as well as if they have a Home IP on their IP audit.

A lot of effort goes into catching users who only have a Mobile/VPN as their account creation IP, but unfortunatly many still fall through the cracks.

Heres an example of what gets caught:
l7FRe20.png

Heres an example of what falls through the cracks, but could be caught:
Hpnltuj.png

As you can see with the second photo, there is nothing to go on through the IP Audit. This user can go unnoticed by staying on the same dedicated VPN IP.

I hope this is interpreted as an attempt to make buying/ renting accounts slightly safer, and not just an attack on the free market. I think it could be very beneficial and prevent some scams from happening.

First

Big support and wondering why we were't given shoutouts..? Do you even love us?

I'm not sure of the current moderation in use on gold threads checks for home IP etc, but if it isn't, then it should also be applied there too!

ikr..... :(

On topic though I spoke to you regarding this, and I think this would be a great idea all around.

We also discussed a separate idea together, which I presented to a couple staff members, and it would be a whole lot less stressful for staff as well, which is essentially this:

"I know banning people is probably the last thing the website needs, but I'd rather have a smaller community with no threats then a large community with tons of threats roaming the market. I know the post under a home IP is definitely an awesome idea, but a ton of those users who've scammed in the past take advantage of this just to explore the market. This isn't fair in my opinion, and I know a lot of people go to university, or other areas that could effect that, but they could easily prove it if that's the case privately to staff. I was thinking that users who have a TWC for not posting under a home IP should have a time limit to post under a home IP otherwise they'll get banned. It would definitely make the market a whole lot safer, and I know a TWC helps, but still it's not fair to those with a DNT as this system could easily be abused."

Other solution:
Place a DNT rather than a TWC on users who don't post under their home IP, so they can't abuse the system. If they try to get around it with a DNT it would be way easier to be on top of / trace as compared to finding who someone is ban evading on a TWC before it's too late.

I agree on moderation of the name sales section. as a former name seller, there is a lot of untouched or garbage threads floating for 100% post count and whatnot. there is quite a bit of cleanup that could be dealt there and itd be nice to see a change.

The gold sections are moderated because we had issues with spammers and imposters. That hasn't been the case with main rentals. You would have to demonstrate a need for the section to be moderated like a substantial number of scams occurring from new rental threads something like that

@Tyler A good number of these max main rentals don't get to scam because @sj709 is always reporting new hosts in that section (at his own expense actually). As you know, creating an account on a Mobile/VPN Ip warrants a TWC but thats only if they get caught in time.

While I agree, all of the blame is on the buyer here, I still feel that preemptive measures heavily outweigh reactionary in this instance.

The issue really never had to do with spammers / imposters in the rentals section. The issue was directed towards the enormous amount of scams that happened due to new users being able to freely roam that market due to the section not being moderated (which pendulum explained in the entire suggestion), or in our suggestion where users with a TWC should have that reverted to a DNT, which without those factors it would ultimately put other users at risk. Maybe another solution could be that users would have to wait a certain time period till renting, which @Pendulum spoke to me about, and it seemed like a very good idea. Although it is a free market most, if not all users who only make an account to start up rental services are ban evaders that eventually end up scamming. Like @Pendulum said this mainly falls on the negligence of newcomers to be careful with their money, but mainly newcomers are the ones that rent, and although it's their fault you can't expect all of them to be aware of things like this.

Tons of reports of recent in the rental section:

Scams:
Scam by Hibernation
Aroyo Serial Maxed Main Account Renting Scammer (Recovers Accs w Large stakers)
DC mid max main rental
reporting myself <---- Even a huge ban evader knows how easy this market to exploit without any precautions when he owned up to it there.
hickman recovered max main rental

Ban Evaders (plus some fake vouching included):
Syndacated + Saltyrs - Fake Vouching
Fwukery self vouching?
Self vouch?
Cya Disbanding
BlackHammaz = Mara45
nglowniak
Psh Man ban evader pro
Mara45
Renting Max Main --- Hublot (private report I assume)
Sand casino
Daniel thomas

This is all within the past 1-2 months, and there's way more I didn't include as I rushed this response as it's very late right now, but yeah this is just to show you how easy it is for newcomers to exploit this market right now.

Search tawk.to in Sythe search and find a user that isn't banned apart from 3 who are/have been active long term users.

Since I made that thread Wortel posted above, the amount of people who have posted it and have been later banned for evading/scamming has increased loads

Would rather a global gives a reply to this or at least someone talk about it in SL

I used twak,to live chat because there free, and I use to use one without a website because some sythe users don't have Skype accounts (may have been zompim but same thing)...
So I can't support this

Simple Suggestion:
Extend the moderated status to the RuneScape Account Sales/ Max Main Rentals section. Meaning it would require a Market/Global/Admin moderator to approve it.

I support this, their way to much scamming going, but it can't really be brought across to account section, there too many threads made daily in it for the staff to handle, so you could say I support it being on max main rentals section not account section...

Moderating the section doesn't fix the scam issue and I worry that moderating the section is implicitly saying that every thread approve is somehow safe/not a scam. I welcome suggestions to fix the underlying problem beyond just bandage solutions like moderating sections that are prone to scams

I don't think monitoring the threads more closely on these sections would imply that they're all "safe" of course there is risk. I think we can all agree that most of the time if someone creates an account on VPN its not a good sign. The problem is that these tend to go undetected because they will use a fresh VPN, where only a Moderator would be able to tell. If there was some sort of bottleneck system, it would severely hinder a ban evaders chances of getting by.
