Require people to post from a home IP before posting a max main rental thread

Buying/selling gold requires thread verification to prevent scammers and imposters so why can't account rentals have the same?

The same max main rental scammers make new accounts on a VPN/Proxy and create their thread and end up scamming people over and over so I believe making the forum moderated will help this a lot.

 

If they don't post from a home IP they are already issued a TWC.

 

Don't think it's possible to have some auto verification method which checks for home IP's etc. What you're basically requesting is to have the Max Main Rental section on a moderation status and if so, I support.

 

This doesn't prevent it, I've seen many TWCs in the past week given by not using a home IP and people still use their max main rental services.

If someone chooses to trade with someone with a TWC and not find out the reasoning for the TWC that is on them. We can't babysit everyone to make sure they're using smart trading.

 

I think the suggestion is effective, both it's not worth the effort. Maybe if it were automated.

But what has been said already: the TWC is effective enough. We cannot spend so much effort monitoring to that scale. If someone is scammed by someone with a TWC, it is their own fault.

 

Support having these threads moderated, think people would complain too much about the home IP requirement though.

 

Support in having the account rental section on a moderation status.

Personally I believe posting at least once from a Home IP should be a minimum requirement that should be automated for the entire website (although I'm not sure if it's possible).

I haven't checked in on the section in a long time, so I'm not sure if these soon to be scammers are getting issued TWC's quickly. If so, then I think that's a strong deterrent. If people choose to deal with a brand new Sythe member that has a TWC then it's their own fault.

Main issue with that, is what about people whom only have access to hotspots or possibly at university. Posting from a home IP or requiring it isn't realistic.

 

Hey but how can someone not post from there home ip? you mean like them connecting to like a supermarkt or library wifi and posting? if so, why u guys dont just ban all public wifis XD

 

I'd rather have the people who can't find a home IP to post from suffer (Which I believe is a pretty low number and of that low number, how many are even legit users that aren't ban evaders/scammers). So that we could provide a large hinderance to the gigantic ban evader and scammer problems on Sythe. But that's getting off topic I think.

 

What if there was some encrypted system where to rent an account the Owner of the runescape staking account have to enter the login name and have it registered with the system, nobody can publicly see the login information due to encryption.

Then make it a rule so when a buyer wants to rent an account, they enter the username the Owner gives them, enter the profile link of who's renting it to them, and if it's a match then it gives them a success message. If not it gives a red flag and auto reports/TWCs/bans/infracts the owner as a suspected scammer.

Then when people do scam, the login name of the runescape account remains as blacklisted in the system so the Owner cannot register the name from vader accounts.

Should the Owner/scammer of the account want to lease the account on sythe again, then he/she must go through the appeal process and refund any past victims.

 

Considering how much of a shitshow the account rental market has become, I would definitely support it falling into moderated status, which is basically what you're requesting here. Might cut down a bit on the scams and would definitely free up some of the clutter in there from the new threads made by vaders every 1 or 2 days.

 

Full support members are being scammed for absurd amounts of money, moderation is needed there.

 

People will always find ways to evade, it's about being smart with whom you're trading with. This won't stop the problem. People will find ways around it.

tbh just rent from ppl with 100+ donater or something
