Democrats stealing elections in 11 states, Colorado has passed a bill that will give the votes of colorado to the popular vote, meaning california and new york will decide all elections in colorado and 11 more states about to try to pass this bill, This is disgusting.

Cant believe that I'd have to argue with someone who cites a YouTube video's opinion as gospel but a voting compact would force candidates to campaign and cater to lost-cause states (Republican would go to California because every vote matters, Democrats to the deep South), and empower voters who live in areas where their vote doesn't currently matter. Here is a CATO institute (Conservative think tank) chart showing how a state's power will increase by changing to a popular vote. Notice that California moves down, and while New York moves up so does Texas, Indiana, and many traditional red states.

california atm is a lost cause it has been taken over by democrats, this bill they are passing in colorado and 11 other states, is being done to try to make sure trump does not win reelection, and the larger states would decide for the rest of the country, they are bypassing the electoral college there is a reason we have it.

so california and new york are complete liberal states now democrats have completely taken over those states, so wouldnt passing this bill in 11 states that are trying to pass it only help democrats, if they have california and new york locked. And if these bills were passed in 2016 wouldnt hillary clinton have most likely beaten Trump? let's say all states passed this bill in 2016 bypassing the electorial college, hillary won the popular vote right ? so she would have won the election, unless we assume that trump would of swayed california or new york which most likely would not have happened. Also if this wouldnt directly help the democrats why are they pussing to remove the electoral college.

 

The majority of Americans support a popular vote, and this original bill had bipartisan support.

Right now republicans in California have extremely low polling rates while democrats have extremely high polling rates - Republicans in California who currently feel that their vote doesn’t count are actually helped by this bill. You haven’t refuted this point at all but that’s because you don’t know how to make a legitimate argument.

Trump is an extreme example because at this point in his presidency he is the most disapproved of president since approval ratings became a thing (Truman was the first President to have public data on this). Data found on 538.

The reason we had the electoral college is because the founding fathers thought it was a good idea 200 years ago before we became a 50 state nation with 300+ million people. Stop watching YouTube videos and make a fact-based argument I’m still waiting

 

Generally the losing side of an election tend to want the voting system reformed, so had the Democrats won the 2016 election I doubt they'd be pushing this hard for reform.

Here is a list of when each state signed onto the compact. I count 2 times when there was a republican in office, and 10 times when a democrat was in office. In fact, California was the only state to sign on to this during the Trump presidency. This also kinda refutes OP's original argument because he's saying that they want to just get rid of Trump when this has been an 11 year initiative with the vast majority of adoptions being during Obama's presidency.

The founding fathers also required that the runner up become Vice-President - would you be fine with Trump as president but Hillary Clinton/Democrat Vice President? If not, then why? It looks like our country can determine that we can improve upon systems set in place by our founding fathers. That's why our Constitution is amendable, and our voting processes have already changed.

As for your other post, there was zero substance in this and so I won't address it aside from the fact that as people grow older, they tend to be grow more conservative. There are surveys out that show this happens decade after decade.

Well now that I refuted your first argument and you decided to not address it at all you’ve changed your argument so I’ll get going on discussing this one. Right now electoral college is based on total state population (think of all of those ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!!! in California and New York). Taking into account voter eligibility by state, smaller more homogenous states actually gain power on a per-voter basis.

As for the lower voter turnout, we as a nation should encourage everyone to be politically conscious which includes voting. Knowing that your vote will help determine an election whether you live in Alabama as a democrat or California as a republican empowers voters to go out to the polls.

The founding fathers created a system which they believed would provide a level of separation between state and federal powers. This encouraged states to adopt the US Federal Constitution, as many initially held out due to fear of losing their state powers.

Saying that the founding fathers are correct about this directly ignores the changes we have made as a society.

Until the passing of the 17th amendment to the constitution, Senators were not elected by popular vote within the state. The old system was put in place by the founding fathers, but our country needed an update.

These liberals in states which you mention - California and New York - currrently have higher voting power because their # of electoral college votes is inflated by non-citizens. So, if you took that into account then the adjusted popular vote would be FAIRER for citizens in states where the immigrant population is lower.

This process is not about Trump and Clinton. Look earlier in the thread where I posted the table. ONLY California has approved this measure during the Trump presidency, while 10 of the remaining states approved of this during the Obama presidency. This want for change is not a result of the Trump presidency, because it started over a decade before it. You’re looking at a single outcome when the vast majority of Presidents have won the electoral college and popular vote.

When adjusted for voter-eligible population, yes. Some states will lose out and some states will win, but the biggest loser would technically be California as they have the highest electoral college count and the highest foreign-born population.
