copying threads without credit

Theres someone here (who will remain unnamed for NOW) who has blatantly copied several popular threads from another site I frequent. He used the exact same text and whatnot and did not give credit for the idea where its due.

Is this/should this be allowed? In my mind this constitutes plagarism and makes our site look subpar blatantly copying others content.

My suggestion is essentially make ripping off another sites content a bannable or infractable offense. We arent talking a meme or anything petty like that but blatantly copying threads word for word or close ect with no credit..

Thoughts?

Id like more input to see whether this specifically constitutes plagarism (to staff or atleast the general majority of users).

 

IMO copypasting without asking the user on the other forums is plagiarism.
If there was permission for it, no plagiarism.

 

You can't expect staff or users alike to voice their opinion on something they can't see.

With no visual aid, we can only accept the rule for what it is and apply it therein, however if you wish for a persons judgement on something, we need something to base our judgement off. A very basic verbal explanation that doesn't give us any information on what were talking about doesn't cut it.

As we've always said around here, don't complain about somebody's actions unless you are willing to say their name.

No. I mean copying a thread title and original post word for word from another forum.

Idc how its "said around here" im not so quick to jump the gun and drag someones name through the mud without knowing if they are breaking rules or not. Thats slander.

 

If your stealing images or content that were created specifically for use by the other person then that constitutes as plagerism. Useing the same font or bbcode which is provided freely to every user of the site then it doesn't.

 

It all depends honestly, for example, most of my threads are VERY similar to either Nytrix' or TBT's threads. I've asked them personally if I can use their styled layout and their fine with it.

Why not just ask the user if he has permission to be using other people's layouts. Also, if the user isn't OK with it (the user who's thread is being copied) let us know and we'll ask the user who is copying it to change it.

 

Its not bb code its not layout. Its the thread title and original post.

Lets say on forum-x somebody posts a thread about a current event named " man blows off hand!"
Then someone who is a member of that forum and this one copies that threads name and original post and posts it here without acknowledging where hey got the idea from

 

I personally think any individual caught straight-up plagiarizing guides, tutorials, intros, thread layouts, logical arguments, etc. without citing or asking permission from the creator should receive a warning first. If the behavior continues or they flat out deny it was plagiarized, as in Nerfed's case *lol*, then a stricter punishment (1 month ban) should be enforced.

That being said, I think it's fine if it's some spam forum "I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals" copypasta crap or something like in this case:

 

This is an attempt to stir shit with me. I copypasted the "man throws away $7 million in bitcoin" thread from Forumkorner. There's absolutely ZERO plagiarism taking place, as that thread consisted of nothing more than a copy/paste of the original article which was linked to.

This is no different than finding the article myself and posting it on sythe. I found it via another forum, and decided to share it here.

 

And before nod tries to claim he was referring to something else, here's the quote directly from FK by him.

I copied ONE thread. A thread that didn't contain a single letter outside of the copy/paste of the article. I was merely sharing something that I found interesting, that I had found through a source outside of the article itself.
