That's my point, why would we make that such an easy thing to achieve?

 

Because it would highly facilitate involvement in the community, and what we REALLLLLY need right now is more community involvement. The size of the site has been declining, as everyone is aware, and going off what x339 has been suggesting for the past 4 months: we NEED more hands-on involvement. We need to give the users a reason to stay here and to be active and to work to make the community better for everyone. The staff alone can't "save" the site.

 

I really understand the concept and the dire need for these types of things, my only argument is that the UR is way too much. There's no other ideas besides a UR?

 

SuF suggested a points system, where you save up and can buy perks, but really that would take too long to satisfy the solution I'm offering. That solution being a much quicker way to attract interest to community involvement. If people have to work and work and work for a couple points, I see people just losing interest. It reminds me of those referral programs (Lockerz or something) where you see great prizes for 100 points, and two weeks later, you still only have like 25 points. The trade off is instant gratification and temporary perks as opposed to permanent perks for weeks of work.

 

I support the idea as long as only, say, one or two key members associated with the event get the rank. Not everyone who signs up to help get people aboard, because there going to be everywhere and just as appealing as a 5$ donor rank is.. not. So someone coming up with some community competition or such decides me, w, x, y and z came up with this idea, therefore we should get these ranks - isn't acceptable. One or two maximum. But definitely not partyhats.

 

Fair enough, but a problem with that is: the point is to facilitate site-wide participation-- events are stupid and they eventually die or are forgotten when there's no "grunt" users to fill up the roster-- we need to give incentive to those "grunt" participants.

 

I'm hugely against new ranks.

 

I want to know what an administrator thinks, this would require admin participation too, since distributing the rank requires ACP access.

 

How would a colored name look.

Or even a bold one, with a custom UT.

 

Colored names are DNS, UIs would take a lot more work than issuing and retracting a rank image because then people would have to reset their old UIs (if they were donors) all over again, or have a mod reset it, or whathaveyou

 

Agh, makes sense. Was just thinking of forums like Powerbot where they've got like 8 colors, but it makes more sense not to venture off there.

As for your suggestion, it really doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm all for signing up to a competition if it interests me, but some meaningless rank upon participating? The idea doesn't sound of interest to me. Sure it might encourage more people to participate, but how many people will sign up just for the rank and not really participate or actually play for fun? I think finding some other incentive to make people participate would be better.

 

I do not think there should be a rank given for community participation. If people truly like the community they will partake in this without getting a rank in return.

 

How about a little badge, underneath Join date, location, and Posts?

Me neither, but I am sure someone could figure it out. I just figured it would be a good compromise between rank and no rank.

 

I've got no problems with issuing ranks.

 

Going off what SuF said, you could make the rank reset monthly with an easy requirement to earn it back.

Otherwise, I agree that some sort of rank is a nice idea to involve the community - but I don't think it should be blue phats.

 

Maybe make it like dragon full helm or something. Rares like phats and stuff should be for more important matters
