Child punishment
As many other people I was brought up in a family where as a punishment you would sometimes be hit. I thought this over, and I came to relize that it did help me learn my my lesson most of the time Although many people say it is wrong to strike a child. What are your thoughts on this.

Child punishment
I think it's wrong, I mean it only makes the child dislike his/her parents more.

Child punishment
sometimes, it really depends on the situation. too often can scar the child for life, and when you dont do it, the child never learns

Child punishment
I wasn't spanked as a child...
So if you want to turn out like me...

Child punishment
Punishing a child is how they learn their lesson, its not like them telling not to do it. Don't hit them hard enough to break a bone, (though its happened to me a couple of times), let them know they are doing something wrong.

Child punishment
yea.. i was hating my mom for a loooong time.. now shes different.. i think because im 17 now

Child punishment
Hitting a person at the pub = Jail
Hitting a person even though your their parent it makes no difference.
I am against hitting children.

Child punishment
Sometimes is good, just not 100 times in a day.

Sending them to their room with no tv or pc is more effective.

Child punishment
I think it depends on the kid. Everyone learns differently, so everyone should be punished differently. If the only way your kid will listen to you is to use force, then go for it.

Child punishment
I only think kids should get hit only if its absolutely necessary. For example, If you have a spoiled child, and he/she gets into trouble, then yes, you might want to take action that way, so they can learn.
I was hit when I was little, but it wasn't to the point where any of my bones were broken...I was hit only about two times a month. Sometimes there would go a month without getting hit :)

Child punishment
I'm against, violence is basically never a learning method.

If you stole something and I broke your jaw... would you remember and think about it next time? Of course you would. IT does work...

Child punishment
thats what made me hate my parents, a couple months my mom beat me till her toe broke. uasally i just hit back now. i think beating and hitting is wrong, if your child done something wrong beating the shit out of him/her is gonna make it better?

my mom is like 5"3 and she bitches me around knowing I won't hit her.
I just leave though and won't come home for week to a month.

That is two different things buddy.

This thread was about using violence against your CHILD/REN. Don't you see a difference in that? I'm sure you wouldn't break your sons Jaw right? Exactly.

However people like you should grow up. Beating up someone or in this case breaking a jaw isn't a good solution since bad consequenses might occur.
Just Fighting in general is imature.

Enough said.

Child punishment
It will discipline the child but it will also sever ties with them. From a child's view, if someone hit them when they did something wrong, the next time they did something wrong I could guarantee they wouldn't tell their parent/s in fear of getting hit again.

Thats dumb... I would tell my parent anything whether I was gonna get hit or stuff taken away from me, you hide the things you do wrong, And if I had a choice whether or not to lose all my stuff or get hit. I would rather get hit...

I never said that I would break my son's jaw... I used it as a example... People remember pain and they remember why they went throught that pain, therefore they remember what caused them pain and want to stay away from it... Also I fight very rarely, last fight I got in was 8 years ago... And fighting solves alot, it gets rid of stress and lets you express emotion.

No, I think it is indeed wrong.

It's not a particularly good deterrant, and all it does is enstil violence into child who is still learning, and taking in the way life works.

Children should be punished firmly, but violence should, in my opinion, never be used.

If we hide things such as violence, sex and drugs from children it can come as a such a shock and they can become unaware of what it can do... I say let them know everyday what they are in for in the future, teach them and let them experience whatever so they can be ready.
