Can you "see"/visualize things in your head?

This has always been a massive mystery to me. Every says when they imagine things, they can "see" them in their head. I've asked people to clarify this "seeing," by asking if they can actually clearly visualize things in their mind and most people say that they do indeed.

I can't "see" anything in my head, if I close my eyes and try to imagine what something would look like, it's just black and always has been. For me, it's more like descriptive words come to mind to describe what I'm trying to imagine.

Can you "see" the things you want to?

 

Yes, but it'll all be in grey/darkish colours.
I can't imagine anything with like actual bright colours and such.

Everyone does it, that's how you understand words and why books can be the most endearing medium.

 

Some people are made to be concrete learners and some made to be abstract learners. I just feel like its how your brain is wired and how you are specialized to do somethings better than others.

 

Yes I can see things behind my eyelids. It takes a lot of focus and energy for me but if I meditate I’ll visualize an object and restrain from losing it.

 

But what if someone said the brown dog jumped over a wooden fence at night. Don't you imagine it?

 

Yes but it’s a bit hazy.

 

Oo I guess it's the same for me too but when I'm just imagining something spontaneously it's quite vivid.

 

I can visualize things, but most of the time it's a little fuzzy. I'm not sure where I actually see it; it sort of floats off in some space separate from my regular vision. It's an actual full color, full detail image, though.

 

Hmm damn, I’m jealous. Wish I could do what you guys describe.

 

What about any other senses? Can you summon up any sounds, smells, anything like that?

 

Nah, never heard of people able to do that lol, maybe it's just more stuff I'm missing.

 

pretty sure what he is describing when saying can you summon up any sounds would be like hearing a song in your head. Just because you've heard it before you know how it goes and how it sounds, So for me I can hear songs if i know them well and listen to them often exactly the same as they are sung, usually its just bits and pieces of the song but some I know completely.



But in terms of seeing things I am about the same as you, I really can't imagine anything in terms of pictures. But sometimes I kind of do and sometimes I'll daydream and even if my eyes are open I'll imagine something else or some scenario which is more like a dream which is still visualizing just not as well as most people seem to be able to do it.

 

Yes, and I always find it quite strange that other people can't, Maybe that's because I've always been able to do it.

I can see the colours, and the shapes but I don't think it's visualisation like people expect. It's not visible as it is in real life, but I know I am seeing it. If that makes sense.

 

You should definitely look into combining meditation with lucid dreaming. Not only will you be able to visualize things better in general, but after some practice you will also be able to control your dreams. I can now construct a detailed scene in my own dreams and i am fully able to control what i do in them.

 

I can, it's kind of like water colors you can see the image, but the lines and details are not sharp.

 

many people who are engaged in construction or art are have highly visualization in the head

 

I can see very vivid structures in my head, a lot of abstract visuals..

as i type with my eyes closed i can see, forming roughly, a ship in the middle of a parted ocean.

Have you practiced meditation? sit down for 5 minutes with your eyes closed, no excuses. do that every day and then try and tell me you can't visualize something.

 

when thinking at the thinking i can't imagine the thing but when ill create something in my head I'll just design and see the result in my head. and seeing lot lucid dreams and lot other things.
