Can males work in childcare?

I've been a swim instructor for children and have worked at camps with children and it has never been an issue.

I can honestly say I've never heard of this bias in the places I've lived.

 

I've heard plenty of horror stories about it but I don't know of any studies that look into this so it's all up in the air.

 

It is possible for a male to work in childcare and to do a good job. Society thinks that women are better with working with children than men like how men are supposed to go out and work to provide for the family which is why the wage gaps exist. Although a man can be better than a woman at taking care of children I'm just saying from a statistical standpoint that women on average are better at taking care of their children than men are.

I've never heard of a such an argument, never heard of this bias in London tbh.
I know there are issues with male pedo's, but there are a lot women pedo's and groomers etc.

A lot of mums may distrust male child-carers because they're single mothers and have been through the issues with their relationships.

I personally wouldn't have this issue, I would be weary of any potentials, but I wouldn't be like "no sorry you have a penis do not go near my child" that's just nonsense.

I have never had any issues with male teachers - they tend to be more funny and have character, or male lifeguards when swimming. I feel it is just that women have motherly instincts and are better at childcare naturally therefore they have an advantage over their male counterparts. Which doesn't necessarily mean that you distrust men. It goes both way in reality.


One other viewpoint we should look at is, if it's male teachers for girls growing up, they can easily be influenced to want to make that teacher look at them etc. So it can be the child's fault or cause of a situation if in early/mid-teens.

 

I personally wouldn't leave my children with a male for childcare. However, this is more a societal guideline that leaves you in a mindset of protection by a false sense of security. As you're either leaving them with a childminder who will do them harm, or will not. The gender doesn't come into it. Prior to leaving them with the child minder you should have your own introduction and gather for yourself as to whether you feel their character out enough to entrust them with your children or from vouches of people you trust who've used their service.

I would personally prefer to rely on family and schooling as opposed to a single person caring for my children. However, costs of living requiring two partners to work is likely the majority case.
