Can males work in childcare?

It is quite common to hear thing such as: "I would never leave my son/daughter with a childcare facility if a male worker is to supervise the children". An article about male childcare workers being distrusted can be found here. As said before, it is not an uncommon thing to hear.

So what do you think about males working in the childcare section? Would you trust a male if you had a child and were choosing a childcare to leave your child at?

As are many double-standards, it's very frustrating to think about.

I think whoever is most qualified to be in childcare should be in childcare. Being qualified means being trustworthy as well I would think. So if that's a man, great, woman, great.

 

Can males work in childcare? Yes, I've done it myself. Obviously there is a preference, but perhaps this is culturally subjective.

 

I will respond to the post when I'm off mobile, but just a quick aside: there are many different forms of feminism and categorizing all of feminism as western tumblr feminism is entirely different than the likes of Judith Butler or Gennivine Lloyd + there's also oppositional feminism that critiques feminism in the same breath. Plenty of feminists address the both the benefits and disadvantages men and women are granted.

Tl;dr: feminism as an all encompassing word is inaccurate to the actual feminist discourse and ignorant tumblr girls holding up signs and quoting inaccurate statistics are hardly feminists

Yeah, pretty much 99% of anti-"feminists" that I've encountered are arguing against straw men.

 

Looking at their proper names, I've never found a definition of feminism that equates to misandry.

Communism COULD exist as more than dictatorships, in theory, but I agree that historically, communism has never existed as anything but dictatorships.

 

I seriously don't think I've ever seen this brought up as a subject of debate. My sister works in childcare fulltime because she's good with kids, thats all I've ever viewed it as. "I would never trust a man with my child" sounds like something you would catch a lot of shit for saying. But regardless, it's a decision only left up to the parents, as upsetting as their opinions may be.

I can't imagine feeling comfortable leaving my child in the hands of anyone I don't know or have full confidence in, dick or not.

This is parents making making rash generalizations based on gender. Where do hypocritical feminists play a part?

 

I see many male people working in childcare and yes its fine for them to be doing that. People just over-react men thinking that they should be working in high paid jobs whilst women should be doing the lower paid jobs. This article was put in place to try to reiterate that. It's another discrimination post.

 

I don't hold that hypothesis regarding communism, and I accept your point - the definition of a pure idea is nice, but it's easily clouded by that idea in practice.

Empirically speaking though, I haven't found anything in mainstream feminism that results in mainstream misandry.

 

Being a father myself, I would assume that you could do it.

The teachers up the school are always happy to see me, and they quite often why my wife isn't around. (She is currently training to be a midwife) So realistically, surely it would be weird of them not to be ok with it? Not unless you had like a sexual preference of children or so on, which is highly unlikely.
