[Approved] Remove the "picture proof" requirement in all forums except Account Sales

Does this mean anything game wise, such as if I wanted a dota/LoL section thread for boosting etc I wouldn't require anything? (not saying I do, but generally using as an example)

 

I'm curious about this aswell.. what about account rentals, fire/infernal/kiln-capes? Gift cards?

You know for a fact it's going to be a sesspit for the most part if infernos etc are removed.

Same for when users claim to sell $2000 giftcards or whatever, but hey atleast I get to report more vaders after.

 

I feel like this is going to go terrible, especially with Inferno.

The intent of this rule (original post here) was mainly to set the "default" level of requirements around the forums at "you don't need pictures of whatever you're selling in order to sell it here," kind of like Craigslist or any number of online forums. I made and accepted that suggestions thread as a log of when we made this change as well as to notify the community about it. In retrospect, making a super quick thread was probably not the brightest idea because we didn't address questions like the ones you guys are posing.

Certain sections (accounts, infernals, fire capes, etc.) will keep their picture proof rules for now, and their stickies should all still have the picture proof requirement rules in place. Gift cards notably no longer has this rule in place though.

Moving forward, we are hoping to find a way to relax the rule broadly but need some time to think about how to do so, especially in the accounts sections. I don't think we will ever remove the requirements for services threads (infernals, fire capes, etc.) so know that proof in those sections will remain for the foreseeable future.

Not sure what era Craigslist is from, but just so you know all Sythe-like forums actually do have those rules in place in an even stronger way. I’m speaking Powerbot, OSBot, Hackforums, Tribot, and a shitton more.

And personally, just me, if im looking at something for sale/service (pixel or real) and they don't even take the effort to add pictures, I don't even take the time to pay them attention. Just seems a way for people to easily lie to people without repurcussions. Anyone could say they've got or done this or that. I do understand it ultimately comes down to the buyers discretion, but especially with language barriers I feel like it could be end up working out badly. It takes 30seconds MAX per picture to screenshot and upload to imgur/gyazo.

Then you don't need a picture of it unless the forum still has a sticky saying you do!

The hope is that, even though you don't NEED a picture of what you're selling, people will realize that they're not going to get much business without posting a picture. It's way more efficient to post a picture in your OP than send it to 50 different people who pm you asking for it. But if people don't want to post it in their OP for whatever reason that's their call.

Ideally we would have templates pre-populated whenever you make a new thread in certain forums (accounts, report a scammer, etc.) but that's a TBD right now.

I much prefer the idea of a drop-down form you suggested. Each particular thread gives you set form options then everything is super clear and conforms to all rules. Also would give nice conformity and somewhat identical layout for everyone to get used to and understand clearly. Of course, they can add their own images and graphics however the form would need to be filled in correctly for each post.

I'm not exactly sure what you're suggesting, but we anticipate having auto-populated forms appear when you try to create a new thread in the new XenForo update. This should be super useful in market forums (no more "please read the stickies and post the required pictures"-type posts!) and report forums especially.

For what it's worth, going back to the OP of this thread, there have been virtually no issues with removing the picture requirements forum-wide.
