Better way of messaging over Sythe?

So somebody mentioned today about scams via miss spelled discord names.

Why do people trade off-site? Is it the messages system on here that makes them go over to a messaging place like Skype and discord? Is there not a way to make it better for players to talk freely and more easy to each other like a Facebook popup or how the gold sites work? so you can browse the forums and talk to individual users while making trades, Finding information out? I feel myself i don't know about the rest of the community that alot more trading would be done within the site and not off site. Along with questions being more of a ease to ask people without making a post that is the same as spam? I'm not a web developer and i don't know what coding would go into this but i feel alot less scams and alot more trades would be made via the Sythe site.

 

No support. Users can just PM via sythe. You can have a group conversation in a sythe PM.

SytheChat was amazing in thought and horrible in execution. It definitely would take over other messengers if it was introduced as explained.

 

Yeah I have hazy memory of some kind of chat being on here or ppl saying it used to be. Think it was removed cuz no one used it. Did it have a pm option? If it did then no support because that means no one cared.

 

I’ve always liked the idea of a Facebook -like messenger on here. I don’t know how much work would have to go into it but it would definitely make trading a lot safer on here.

 

So what's the use of discord?

 

His point was to avoid using third-party messaging systems to avoid potentional scams.

Discord is currently used because it's pretty inconvenient to use the Sythe's messaging system to do trades.

I'll agree with @-Ryan, would like to see a Facebook like system if possible, would make trades much more secure.

Don't you think this would slow down the site? I mean look at how many troll messages are spread through the discord... Imagine actual sales going on within Sythe's platform.

What's wrong with PM? If you can't click someone's name and click again to start a conversation you are just lazy. Ill admit it's "bulky" but I have send messages back and forth through Sythe DM with ease with multiple users in the past. Not as easy as Skype or did but still..


Also lets be real. Most people add someone's Skype / dis for services and sales and they will always have them as a friend correct?

It would be pretty annoying as well having people spam you just to fuck with you and then we would have to have a whole new system for reporting spammers in this FB messager idea.. And you would have to determine what's harassment and what's span and all that jazz. It's easy in Discord because of moderators but with this system, once the Mods find out, the damage is done, because you can't mod a users private messaging....



Also, again, why not just use discord?

can't help people being stupid and adding the wrong Skype or discord.

Also how would trades be "more secure" with this FB messenger? The only extra security would be that users wouldn't have to use 3rd party software, but so many problems emerge.

1. Hacking (which I'll admit is still possible on discord and Skype but it's still an issue). I would want to get hacked and a bunch of unclosed DMs with passwords to be stolen. You would have to create a "clear history" action.

2. Site maleware Infecting and intercepting potentially harmful info. I doubt Sythe will undergo a massive attack, but it could happen.

3. Other downsides like not being able to have notifications when on mobile (which I have with discord and Skype). Maybe a email system can work, but unless there is a Sythe mobile app, this will never work.

4. Not being able to files share (this would be a problem for developers, graphic designers, etc). Maybe it's possible but it's expensive and difficult.

5. Most messaging needed for something like gold sales is already done via gold sites or Skype, where users have had each other added for years.

6. Changes to the Ui/UX that might not fit well with Sythe and XenForo. This can be changed of course but how much work are we looking at?

7. Spammers spamming your message box and people looking at Sythe's new messaging system as an easy way to harass, where as in Skype or discord you have to actually be there friend to talk to them (unless you are in the Sythe discord but you can just mute).

Sure, they can PM you now, but imagine how much easier it would be for people to scam you or harass you when your New messaging application doesn't need you to "add feiends" before they can start contacting you



It's a cool idea! I would use something like this, but it's a pandora a box in my honest opinion.

Too much work for something that doesn't really solve a major problem.


No support for time/money/scam prevention's sake. Half of this seems to be revolved about anti scamming and that seems more of a personal issue than something that a new built in messaging app would fix.

 

Support, as long as it is executed properly. Although I think people might still prefer doing trades over something like Skype or Discord, so it wouldn't necessarily get as much use as one would like. Its still a good idea and it would make things easier on the forums, not only for trading but contacting individuals in private in general.

The Sythe PM system is more than sufficient. U can get email notifications when someone sends you a PM which is already more than other forum software like IPB.

Ontop of that people forget to send valid verifications if they are actually talking with a person. Back in the good old day people would request a confirmations if they were talking to the right person (VIA PICTURE, NOT COPY AND PASTED TEXT).

 

No support. It sounds good in theory but I feel as if skype is such a good platform to converse on we truly don't take full advantage of it. It's really flawless. (I don't like Discord)

 

A web chat would be good it beats having to PM and struggling to find out who a user actually is. I think if executed properly it could work for the communities good. Something that verified the users in the chat and the chat only being uses that are registered on the website sounds like it would be a good idea. However scammers always find a way to milk or get over on any system so it won't solve any issues.
