I have always used Norton. I know that alot of people hate it (i'm not sure why tho?), but i've never had any viruses. It's a great anti-virus, and the power eraser tool is godlike.
It's because Norton itself acts like a virus. This is from experience... It intertwines itself into your PC in a weird way. I remember when I had Norton 360 and uninstalled it I couldn't access the internet until I reinstalled it. I'm not sure if it's still like that but that one experience definitely turned me off permanently.
Common sense is the best security out there, but to be extra safe I use malwarebytes and Avast PRO (got it for free), before that I was using windows defender.
Is Avast worth the switch from Windows defender?
As far as I know Avast is a virusscanner, Windows Defender isn't really one. I'm no hardware geek, but afaik you can use Avast in addition to Windows Defender, however I'd go for another virusscanner. Is Avast worth the switch from Windows defender?

Despite that I do believe it's better to have both of them than neither of them, Windows Defender works fine with another antivirus.Actually, Avast does everything windows defender does and more.
