Jagex seemed to ignore the arena pretty much for the past 3 months. Since then a lot of trade secrets have been spread and a lot less stakers were getting banned. They stayed low-key and bans were almost non-existent. Accounts that are there today have been there for 2-12 months. Everyone is building accounts and camping on insane amounts of accounts. Something had to be done if they weren't keeping up with bans. I see why they needed a better solution, it only makes sense.

Getting an advantage at the arena isn't dead, it's just harder, again. They've done things like this before, but I agree it tastes different this time. They're limiting stake sizes - something they've never done besides free trade removal 2007-2011. A lot of rwters will quit, but those who find a way to make money won't.

The one thing people have yet to talk about is the economy of oldschool. I would say that these staking accounts house roughly 50b+ at any given time. All these accounts are creating a demand for gold, they hold it inorder to stake and that's less money being put in circulation. Not to mention the amount of bonds we use and whips we take out of the game, but that is besides the point. There are far too little gold sinks in oldschool and banning stakers was definitely a good gold sink for them. A lot of money will be put in circulation when stakers quit. I don't see gold price stay above 50 cents for much longer when this goes through.

I have been here long enough to see many changes to the way staking has been, but this time it's different. They are done with odds stakers, they specifically want them out. I think this will hurt their game more than it will help, but what do I know. I'm just a biased degenerate who made a living on someone else's platform. I expect hate and trolls here but I want everyone to know that my intentions are to gauge others thoughts on this. Account trainers, Account sellers, Max main rentals, even gold sites. We're all going to hurt from this.

Never mind i see it. They're not limiting stake sizes, they're limiting one sided staking.

 

It's the latest post on the oldschool front page. They are weighting stakes, not limiting. You have to do with in X amount of your opponent.

 

Several recent reports on here of people getting banned for trading relatively minuscule amounts (1-300M)
Seems like they are really cracking down again.

People are still going to buy gold at the same volume, maybe even more since they don't need max accounts to stake.

It's going to be harder for gold sellers to obtain gold in bulk at cheap prices I imagine. However, they will still obtain it. Maintaining margins will not affect profitability. If they have to buy higher, they should sell higher, which should provide stability in the market.

You are right that banning stakers was a gold sink. In contrast, the development team for OldSchool have done a good job at making gold not easy to obtain (aside from staking.) There are plenty of other gold sinks in the game. Making a bond tradeable is a major gold sink if you work the numbers.

There will still be a system where in-game wealth is being gained manually and automatically, collected by traditional stakers/botfarmers, sold to rwter's, and redistributed to players. It's a cycle that won't stop and the odds stakers, albeit being a big part of the cycle, will not have as much of an effect on the economy as it may seem.
