    [APPROVED/REVIEW] Automatically locking old threads

    Discord scammers have came up with a rather ingenious(horrible but ingenious) idea of bumping a users old sythe market threads and stealing their old discords to scam users I'll just list a few reports but I've seen 10-20 of these now here's 5 people so far;

    Partyparth scammed me
    PartyParth scammed me for $379.00

    Now my original plan was to suggest to lock threads (30) days after nobody commented on them however I came up with a much better idea after thinking this through;

    Add a option under thread tools(where you currently change a threads title) that gives you an option to close threads after X amount of inactivity with 4 bubble options -

    * Close after 7 days
    * Close after 14 days
    * Close after 21 days
    * Close after 30 days

    These options will enable users to close their threads if they go inactive so people cant bump them and scam - The times would run off the last comment on the thread so if I post a thread today - Select close after 7 days - Nobody ever posts on it after today - On 11/27/2018 the thread would automatically close - Thus getting rid of this issue.

    I also think it'd be wise to add a mandatory option when creating threads that offers the same thing - You have to select how long after the last comment you'd like ur new thread to be closed - (Same time options) and upon posting the thread the same countdown would start from the last post and if u pick 7 days than after 7 days it would auto close. The thread tools option I discussed above could be used to (update) the time setting you set orginally when making the thread if you want to change them for some reason.

    It's easy that if it gets auto-closed because you didn't post or you want to revive a thread at some point to just report it and get it unlocked -> Its much harder for staff to just start locking every old market users thread.

    The timeframes are long enough to that it wouldn't look bad as if u set a thread to autolock after 7 days it's probably 5+ pages back.

    When your thread got locked automatically you'd also get a PM from @SytheBot notifying you that it was locked like;

    "Hi - Username

    This PM is just to inform you that thread (title here) has been locked as it has not been commented on for (7) days - If you wish to unlock this thread please visit the above URL and click the "Report" button in the top right and simply type "unlock" and a staff member will unlock it for you shortly! - Thank you for using Sythe.org

    Honestly seems like a no brainer. In the past week we have had the same person use @Sonic1337 ‘s month old post necroed into 6-7 imposter scams. Maybe an alert can be set for expiring posts (instead of a bot command when it’s already expired). You can pick a sticky thread explaining how to get a locked thread activated (Ie report function). I’d say auto 15-30 days is a nice default (not a user choice). I’d say locked threads are also great deterrent as buyers would be hesitant interacting (rather now they just see a discord and add it without second thought) with a locked post.

    I fail to see the logic in this post. I asked someone else and he didn't get it either.

    I assume the logic was "We shouldn't baby people if they get scammed they'll learn how to get a PM" and sure maybe some of them will. Some of them wont. The ones that don't learn that will probably quit or create bad word of mouth for the site. OP is a suggestion to prevent the scams from ever occurring(like PM's are); It is merely another avenue of protecting from scammers/impostors that would prevent a deadly impostor scam that's cropped up from being an issue or wiping out 99% of it.

    With that being said I see no substantial logic or reasoning behind your post. I'm all for not babying users but a scammer bumping a old sythe thread with a junk account-> Stealing their old discord-> Going to the trouble of scamming users.

    That is not a simple scam ; I have seen a few old users fall victim to this scam ; While I'm all for a free market and people learning from mistakes(albeit - Harsh ones where they get scammed) ; This is complex enough and happening often enough to warrant a response from staff to stop it. Better to nip it now before these types of scams get out of control.

    Sure in a perfect world everyone is aware, and no one wants to take responsibility for what happens.

    Saying new users should be well versed on the entire site is just silly at best.

    Thing is when the Sythe staff uses the same argument it becomes weak over time. It’s especially apparent when simple changes such as this one is ridiculed with the common notion.
    It really makes it seem like the moderating community is in support of the morally incorrect sides of trading.

    Neutrality holds no value in this topic.
    Even PMs are being faked and scammmed with enough creativity. Look at the recent incident with @Ice Queen .

    This is a great idea that would help with the recent scams we've been seeing. This is ultimately up to @Sythe & @Shin if its something that can be implemented during the forum revamp, or if its easy enough to add as is.

    This idea was already brought up like 2 weeks ago so consider me on board - I believe Panda volunteered to look into making a bot of sorts that can help with these sorts of scams. @Pain

    I think another problem is that people never request a sythe verification PM

    Sometimes when I do fire capes for people, I never even know their sythe names until they vouch, sometimes they don't even have a sythe account created when they message me on discord

    Never said we couldn't. Simply stated Panda had offered to do that so that's where we are currently without the suggestion here specifically.

    I've asked Matthew to take a look at this suggestion.
