[APPROVED] Purge/Remove Technical Core

TC had a good push late last year/earlier this year with involvement in the final launch of Sythescape (which never really happened) and it appears to simply be a meme fun-rank at this point.

That being said I have only seen involvement/any measurable productivity from: Andy Samberg, Syfiends, John Devola, Shin (SytheLib I believe & Ofc Shinbot).

The sense of the team is great; however why allow it to just be for people who want to sit on the funrank?

This is why you need to be demoted.

 

Me and @Shin have recently been talking about some stuff. Some of my ideas have been implemented, others are kind of in limbo because TC doesn't actually have any authority to take action. I think what needs to be done instead if also give all TC a technical administrator status so we can modify some systems.

Yeah I've never seen these fun ranks do anything.

I'd say the whole "mini-staff" system needs a rework, but I have been inactive for half a year.

 

I don't see most the staff doing work, just remove their funranks. If they want to help out they don't need a rank to do it. If people need to contact staff there can be a contact button or directory.

 

The team is a resource for the site and Richard/Shin are pretty good about dealing with inactivity (there was a performance evaluation last year which removed a lot of members).

With the pending updates to the User Center and future forum redesign, I don't think removing the team is really necessary. I think having another performance evaluation and removing inactive members is a better approach.

 

I like this approach, just remove the inactive people. Same for CDT, PR and Staff members - maybe they all need more regular removals.

 

The issue seems to be that inactivity is addressed, they are active for a week, then back to zero activity. Definitely need to drop the inactive folks as there are quite a few on both teams.

 

I have never displayed the Tech Core fun rank nor have I ever worked on SytheLib.

Also, @Grave has probably contributed more time and effort than everyone else in the TC combined. It's just fallen on deaf ears for the most part unfortunately for various reasons. He's tried to contribute a lot to the site for years, but only a few of those attempts have been successful. We have been speaking again recently as well, so I can confirm that.

As for the suggestion, I think the team could do with a bit of cleaning up again. However, I would expect those who are inactive would willingly step down as they did in the past. I'm not sure what can or should be done with the team currently or in the future, as it's @Sythe's team ultimately, but there certainly could be some improvements made.

 

IMO they're already contributed much to the site I believe if they have the rank they've earned it. Would be a shitty to just remove it due to a couple days/months of inactivity when it could take month/years to develop improvements or technical anything.

 

I don't think removal of an community team that dedicates their volunteered time is necessary. Their will be work that is needed to be done, so keeping the team around and having moderate work should be acceptable.

I'll support a cleanup tho, to stay on a team anywhere, you need to participate and have moderate activity.

A funrank does not represent anything other than their position in a team, which is not a symbol for trust...... (and if you honestly disagree with this, than remove anything in the title that will up sell a newbie ex. [ex-mod], [mod], and [global fattest]).

 

Yeah a cleanup should suffice. Team leaders in all teams should be evaluating their members every so often and get rid of people who arent participating as much as they should be

 

I completely agree doesn’t seem they are doing all that much.

 

I can't speak for everyone since I've no clue what contributions everyone has made, if any.

• Blupig built SLade which has been a big help to me and others using SytheLib.
• I've done a ton on SytheLib and get people almost daily asking me questions about it and there's tons of people using my scripts and also using them to learn to build their own.
• Shin does Shinbot.
• Grave did that Rust event.
• John Devola initially funded Sythescape back when that was a thing.

That's all the contributions I know of in the last year if they were even in the last year.

 

No support, just because something isn't working doesn't mean it should be removed. Instead, it should be improved. It was added for a reason and just because it ain't working doesn't mean we should get rid of it. Getting rid of the problem doesn't solve it. Same applies to my previous staff position, but I guess that's one they'll find out when I return to the staff team.
