[APPROVED] Fix account selling rules

Currently the rule(s) state that if an account is recovered, or presumed to be recovered, then the account buyer can claim they don't feel like the account is safe/secure and the seller is at that point forced to refund or become banned/DNT.


This poses a huge problem for the various trusted users of this website, A buyer can easily fake a recovery by changing the registered email to something else and then just claim it was recovered. Once they receive the refund for their purchase price they have lost nothing.


Lets use a more specific example:

Let's say i'm just a regular sythe user. I approach @Champ and ask him to purchase an account he is selling.

• I purchase the account for $1500 USD.
• 3 weeks later I am bored of the account/I lose too much gambling/literally anything else.
• I change the registered email on the account and post a scam report on Champ saying he has recovered the account, I also say I'm unsure of the safety of the account now and would like a refund.
• Champ is now forced to refund me the purchase price of the account, or risk losing Admin/becoming DNT.

This system heavily favors the buyers over the sellers, and give people the option to "rent" accounts at their leisure at no loss to them, not only that there's lots of ways for this to be abused.

• Changes in prices of purchasing price (OSGP, crypto ect)
• I could bot on somebodies account and then claim it was recovered and have them take back the account only to have it banned later.
• Risks of account trading could be unnecessarily the dangers of the seller ect

 

Then what happens when the account is actually recovered?

 

What could you have possibly figured out with the magical abilities you posses to figure out a way that no other human brain larger than 3 cm can't?

Jokes aside, I agree with the idea of letting seller's TOS state rules that the buyer must adhere to in order to protect the integrity of the seller and the security of the account.

 

I agree heavily with this suggestion and there is a post in SL that has been going on for weeks, discussing different methods, ins, and outs to this same problem. I am going to close this, as we have, and continuing to spend lots of time looking for solutions in vague areas, not only for this one, but others as well.

after reading this is makes selling accounts seem more risky then buying them, but personally I don't see any compromise that would make it feel balanced, there would always either have the buyer guaranteed their money back by making false reports, or sellers recovering because they know nothing will happen to their account

and for you @Divine making a website and having a T.O.S that states you aren't responsible for recoveries doesn't make you a genius and is pretty obvious

 

A solution to acc sales could be seller changes email, buyer confirms it then seller makes buyer confirm that if email changes they can't deem the account unsafe as it is now in the hands of the buyer, already pm'ed this to champ on skype, but figured I would post it here.

 

When the OO recovers an account it doesnt matter which e-mail is currently attached to the account. If the original IP and log-in to an account are:

00.00.00.00
[email protected]

Jagex will immediately hand back the account to anyone matching the original IP and log-in, overruling the current e-mail attached. Otherwise people who are being hacked wouldnt be able to recover their accounts.

This makes it so your suggestion doesnt work. The buyer could claim the account was recovered, while the buyer manually changed the e-mail to something else to make it seem like it was recovered by the OO.

 

you can spot fake recoveries and hacks we sold 1300accounts and every month atleast 5-6 ppl try to pull something like that for an old acc, they say its hacked, but they actually sold it, they want the money from us but they also sold it or they just sold it and want it back, if mods need help in any of those cases, especially when a trusted account seller is involved, msg me

Isn't the basis of any report on sythe to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the other party is guilty of said offence. The registered email being changed isn't definitive proof of a scam as the accuser could change the email just as you said to gibberish. This doesn't seem to be the case with trusted account sellers, so wouldn't the "solution" to this be stick with reputable sellers and don't punish users when sufficient proof can't be given?

 

yeah account rental service is an interesting term they developed to do it aswell. u buy an acc and are semi warned it will most likely be recovered in 2 months so ur basicly boarding the titanic but yeah we will refund u part of the money if ur proven to be scammed, ur all good

 

The problem is the buyer has no defentive proof and can obtain none.

 

Then this is a nonsensical ruling. Or in the case of a registered email being changed it most definitely is.

The way I see it, if you buy an account you should be certain that the account will be safe/secure as the buyer at the time of purchase. If your trust was misplaced, that should be a lesson to you as a buyer to be more careful when purchasing accounts.

In so many other markets, the buyer is the one that loses out if things go wrong. A name trader can easily snipe their own name mid-trade and there is nothing the buyer can do to prove it was them, therefore the buyer is held accountable for it in most cases for 'not transferring the name safely'.

Why should the accounts market be any different, especially when the current ruling can be used maliciously?
