New community repayment forum

I think we need to revamp the way we share information about community repayment with the rest of the site.

Right now, we have three stickies that a user might encounter were they looking for information about the CRF:
Community Repayment Funds (just a redirect to #2)
Been scammed? Read here. Community Repayment Fund Thread! (Sythe PM VIDEO WITH REPORTS) (outdated sticky)
Have you been scammed and want to be paid back? (links to two closed stickies)

This confusing web of outdated stickies makes it really hard for scam victims to claim CRF funds. The "just DM video" method is also inefficient.

I think we should create a new moderated forum for CRF repayment. It would work similar to the way the Request a Pardon forum works right now: Users read the stickies, make a thread providing proof of their repayment claims, and staff evaluate it. If it is a reasonable claim that meets our standards for repayment, they get added to the to-be-refunded list. This would also help to reduce our reliance on video alone.

 

100% agree with this. I was just looking at that thread where it said "just PM video" and thought wow, that is a really shit way of handling things...
video may be good on it, I wouldn't have a clue because I've luckily never been involved with the CRF, but my thought process is how busy video may be with other things that these scam victims would have to wait a while for a reply, then the process of sorting it out... sounds like a lengthy and avoidable process.

 

I think a new private section is a more organized idea. Kind of like submitting for Bond Holder / Mod applications, the user will follow a template and post said claim so staff can go through and evaluate it's worthiness. It would lessen the burden on Video but at the same time you'd have to account for people's biased opinion on if one would qualify or not.

 

I was VERY confused when I first signed up to be on the repayment forum.
You had a thread with outdated info, one with somewhat newer but still outdated and another that was the correct list.

Imo it should all be merged into one big thread and if names need archiving make a separate thread in private and edit that between staff.

Yeah, I support this as well. If you crunched the data, I'd expect a large amount of victims to be newer users. Navigating Sythe can sometimes be challenging in and of itself.. especially for newcomers. Making CRF more centralized and procedural/simple might help prevent situations where a new user is scammed and never comes back due to his experience.

 

Why make it private? People are (rightfully, imo) going to want to see where funds are disbursed to. There is another suggestion asking for this that I think we will likely approve.

I figure we can at least log CRF payments similarly to how we log pardon decisions.

 

Private until approved. My logic behind this is just because someone will randomly post there saying “oh you don’t deserve it” or spam.. etc etc. we could of course just keep it moderator allowed posting only but then you’d have to think about that guy who’d make 99 threads in one day.

That’s just my thoughts on why I would privatize it. Not saying it has to stay that way necessarily.

I support, I wonder how many people don't even know about CRF? They just get scammed and leave? Maybe mods should mention it when they post on their scam reports? "Check this thread to see if you are eligible for community repayment" etc.

Support, making things easier on new members of the community is important, especially, as @IGotOwned pointed out, a large percentage of people who get scammed on Sythe are new users.
