Anouncements Must Be Read

Remember 90% of people are stupid.

 

Forcing people to read the anouncements is the same as reading the terms and conditions when you join a site or download something, no one does it its just annoying.

 

It's not forcing them to read it like "read every word or you're not coming back on the website" it's making them aware of it, "You might want to read this, choose to ignore it but don't say we didn't warn you", it's just to make the announcements stand out more, so people notice them quicker.

 

I support. I understand that it should be up to members to read them themselves, but in some cases if members are ignorant of the announcements it can affect several people, not just themselves. I.E Amyles Skype being hacked, if someone didn't see the announcement and got scammed, they get upset because they were scammed but it also affects Amyle as they must repay. There ignorance shouldn't cause others suffering.

In theory its great, if it can be implemented that'd be awesome. Perhaps like the Private Message updates, where a popup appears on the screen? If that can be done, it means the message pops up and people are much more likely to read it.

 

I agree with this. If it could be added in with some simple adjustments/coding then i don't see why it would be much trouble.

Would save some users from trading hacked MSN's.

 

I would love to see this in place here at Sythe. Scammers would have a harder time doing their thing. As some people said earlier, it shouldn't be mandatory to read, but it should pop up.

 

I agree, private message announcements would be ideal.

 

They aren't necessarily PM's. Here is an example of what would come up if an announcement were to be placed on Sythe. The next time you login/visit Sythe this would show up.

 

The private message pop-up is just as efficient in alerting the person(s), and would not require the use of another plugin to do this.

 

I don't think it's necessary. People will either read it or they won't and we do a pretty good job with announcements.

 

This one site, when you first joined, it will tell that you must read this topic before continuing the site which was the rules. Basically, I've read it because I have to and if it's important, then it should be read. Support. Only for important announcements though like a hacking or security issue.

 

Support, I think a majority of us would spend the 2 minutes to read something that's significant.

 

Some people still don't read them. I forget to check them myself and only on the odd occasion notice them. Imagine all the trouble this could save with hacked MSN's in the future.

 

Important announcements are already extremely visible, this will just be a nuisance.

 

It could potentially save a few scams.

In reality there is only 1-3 announcements a month so it wouldn't be in the way. The positives far outweigh the negatives.

 

I don't get how that isn't enough, seriously all up in my face in every forum.

PS. if this ever gets added, it'd seriously need a toggle option.

 

It's not enough, because all announcements are bolded and displayed as shown by yourself, so eventually you just get used to 'that bolded bit at the top of your screen' and might not realise the change. I've missed a few announcements myself. The "pop ups" would only be for major announcements such as hackings (Amlyle's for example) or security information (SwiftKit incident for example) and could potentially prevent some scams or hackings here or there which in turn would prevent Sythe scams/hackings.

It wouldn't take up much time to click out of the pop up. When you dismiss a PM it literally takes 2 seconds, and at least you then know it's there, you can check it when you feel like it, if you choose to check it at all. A disable option for a one second click isn't really necessary/not a problem in the first place.

 

Support in full. Announcements are nothing but crucial. They warn people of hacking, weather they should reset their password, and a number of other things.

 

I don't necessarily think our announcements are important enough to force people to read them. A new moderator was promoted or userx's MSN is hacked. A hacking traditionally doesn't affect a lot of people as those who do business with the user see the user's banned/threads locked. A promotion is just a promotion. The most people contribute is a congratulations.

Maybe we could provide a larger link at the top of the forum/alter the title for more serious issues. ie large gold resets, etc. That's definitely a possibility.

 

Definitely for major ones such as large gold resets or giant traders such as BSGPSeller or something should be made to be read. They are crucial.
