Allow Referrals or Add a section.

Referrals: posting referral links(referrals are allowed in signatures only) for sites, surveys, other games, etc. This includes sites such as Share-cash.

Now I'm kind of confused on why this rule is here, I'm assuming it was put in place due to prevent spam.

However, I feel the forum is in desperate need of a new active section, and I can see this being VERY active.

Why?

-We can merge shopping deals, referrals, advertisements etc into 1 section.
-This section would appeal to a huge variety of users
-This section shouldn't be to hard to moderate.

I really like this idea tbh, everything from a shopping deal at home depot to amazon ref links would be allowed, it appeals to so many people.

Also, I think people deserve to be rewarded for telling others about a good deal and whatnot.

I think the positives and activity of such a section far far outweigh the negatives.

For those of you whining it might cause spam- Look at the community- Perhaps what we need is a good active section which you don't even have to visit if you don't want to.

Thoughts?

tl;dr for lazy: Add a referral, shopping deals, promotions section, which ref links, shopping links & deals, and various site promotions can be put.

 

The only reason why this could be a problem is people could upload sketchy websites to the sub-section or delivery times could effect others which could cause discretion between the buyer and individual who recommended the site.

 

That's what the report a post and moderators are for though :C.

With that logic we'd never be able to add a new section just because something CAN BE DONE does not mean it WILL BE, and that's why we have 20 staff.


Also I'm not sure what u mean by delivery time, this wouldn't be a section for gold sites etc, it'd be a section for other sites(mabey occasionally gold sites) to run their promotions in, or clothing sites, silver/gold sites, any type of site promotion.

Along with ref links, shopping deals etc.

If the sites are selling goods, the shipping side of things may potentially cause issues as I mentioned.

If a site runs a promotion, that promotion is obviously going to redirect or involve that site, if the site has shipping issues that's their fault lol, that's not because of a sythe section that's because of the actual site.

 

I like it. I think eventually it's just going to turn into a cesspool where people just post their referral codes without using other people's code. Overall though I could see it working (at least for a little while) if everyone is smart and uses a few codes whenever they post one they want other people to use.

I personally always look up coupon codes when I'm ordering food for delivery, and 9/10 times the "coupon codes" that pop up under google are referral codes. I could honestly give two shits that it's a referral code because I'm about to get my food delivered for free with $5 off. If I could help someone out on Sythe instead of some random person posting on retailmenot I'd rather do that. I could also see this working nicely with the new "like" system that is coming with Xen.

I think two sections for "virtual goods" and "real life goods" for coupon codes or referral links would be ok. The only thing I see happening is a dozen or so referral links to the same website, or potentially a referral code to a scam site or something. Limit it to one thread per person, and I could see this being a good addition. Kind of like a "bargain bin" or something, where you can browse the various codes for deals on various sites, would be neat.

Agree. A referral link with a proper description, pictures etc is fine (as long as it was not properly advertised before).

I can see it as being a very successful section, because you can share various threads. It would be very helpful for SEO and would bring more people to the forum.

 

But one thread per person might be detrimental to actual legit users as well. For example if I find a good deal (with ref link), post a thread, then subsequently find another good deal, do I rename my thread "Ujesternwind's ref links"?

If another way can be found to combat the problem of people just spamming their ref links to random sites then this seems like a good idea.

 

I don't support this. You're putting more individuals at risk with sketchy links than the profits are even worth. This should solely be done in private. IE; Everyone preaches about having so many skype contacts, and offering mass messaging services. Do it through there. This is just one more element that needs to be monitored and I don't see the benefits outweighing that.

 

"sketchy links" is not a valid reason to not support this.

It's ran by 3 staff and multiple ex staff, Not one is concerned about potential links.

Such things can easily be reported and removed and frankly- if your worried, don't use the section.


Saying someone, somewhere, MIGHT DO SOMETHING in a new section means nothing, if we were to follow your opinion sythe would never get a new section added.

As you can see in the above comments I clearly stated that and other staff didn't believe it was a concern.


@ jester I believe what we meant was that 1 thread per person in terms of ref's, like instead of posting all ur amazon ref links on 1 thread, then ur shoe ref links on another thread, they'd all go on one thread to prevent spam, if you got a new coupon/ref code you'd just add it to ur thread and bump it.

To answer what I think you are attempting to say through some half ass broken English, you cannot use phishing or rats as a reason to no support, if we used that logic nothing would ever be done "because the small majority" sythe doesn't bow to the small majority, sythe does what he thinks is best for the MAJORITY.
